When the rest of the innings was closer to 200, yes. He dragged down the run rate overall.

Ok you could argue it was better to send Bairstow in today. If someone is setting an all time fastest 50 at one end, then yeah everyone else looks slow. What do you want a fresh record every innings ...

However Root is no plodder in T20.

Shouldn't it have been Bairstow run out off the 2nd to last ball, not Root? Root was well past Bairstow when the bails were taken off.

Good effort by The Aussies, but no hope against that kind of score.

I have to admit, I've always considered him to be a handbrake on the innings but the average strike rates say otherwise.

Today's top seven batsman's strike rates in T20 internationals....

Hales - 137.82
Buttler - 136.80
Roy - 136.07
Morgan - 132.68
Root - 129.45
Bairstow - 121.63
Ali - 112.84

I'd never have said Root scores eight runs fewer per 100 balls than Hales but there you go.

Maybe we should just play our short form boys in the tests and pretend to them that it's a short form game...

Bairstow was still in his crease. Can't be out from there.

First 20/20, fairly evenly matched so far. Well apart from the last over with 3 wickets.

Nice to have some away support, there were no Aussies to cheer their team on

Absolute shambles there from Joe Root. Needs dropping from the T20 team pronto....

For those who didn't see it, first ball, plays forward defensive to a leg spinner and misses the ball. Dhoni behind the stumps fumbles the ball, takes an age to get it under control and still has time to knock the bails off with Root way out of his crease, barely bothering to get back in.

As brilliant a batsman Root is, he really is not suited to 20/20. Should be saved for tests

May as well play Boycott...

In all fairness this Indian team is far better than the Aussie third XI they sent over.

Root dropped from the T20 squad, in comes Stokes.

Can't say I'm surprised, can't say I'm disappointed. Had to come; he's a near-perfect fit for ODI and Test cricket but maybe not for T20.

Hurumph!

Why did Stokes only bowl two overs?

Well done to the girls for yesterday's result.

I see our girls did well again against New Zealand, some very good spin bowling too.

Are they allowed to play in the boys team?

Can’t believe they’re actually going ahead with this nonsense.

“There will be no six-ball overs in the 100-balls-a-side cricket tournament to be introduced in 2020. In the radical new format ten balls will be bowled from one end, followed by ten from the other — with nine changes of end in an innings.

Each bowler can bowl up to 20 balls in total but the ten balls from each end can be bowled either by one bowler or two bowling five each — and it will be for the captain to decide”

As we're leaving the EU wouldn't it be wise to stay away from decimilisation.
