RIP. One of the legends of the game
gutted....one of the best middleweights to ever lace them up....it's a pleasure to say that years ago i met the guy at a dinner event. lovely bloke and seemed to genuinely enjoy talking about his fight with marcel cerdan and had the good grace to admit had cerdan not injured his arm early in the fight he would likely have been beaten.

I knew his daughter 30 years ago, lovely lady.
was she living over here or were you over there pal?

i found out the night i met him he'd lost one of his sons in a plane crash apparently.
meeting and talking to him it was hard to align the lovely old fella in front of me with the bad , bad man he'd been earlier in his life.
She was over here Tusc. South Kensington area, sold her a few cars back in the day.

Saying his body cant take it any more, respect if its all true, great champ and he did take a fair amount of punishment in the first fight with kovalev so understandable in some ways.

Shame to see Ward bow out but think it also coincides with his HBO contract ending and seemingly no other offers on the table.

Some great wins on his card.

Absolutely; Kovalev twice, Dawson, Froch, Kessler, Bika, Abraham...such a pity so much of his prime was spent on the sidelines through injury and contractual disputes.

i decided i didn't like him after he beat kessler and named him "son of goat" in here for his generous use of his forehead as a third fist biggrin

....but i quickly warmed to his incredible inside work and distance control....his toughness was incredible....

even though i thought kovalev won their first encounter it was clear that ward was learning kovalav as the fight went into the second half and i wasn't too surprised that he completely dominated the rematch...the stuff of elite level fighters....hell go down in history for sure....defo a lock for first ballot hall of fame induction in 2022...

Think he heard McGregor was stepping up in weight.....

Sad to see him go but classy way to exit the sport. Took whatever fights came his way as well, which not many can say nowadays.

As good as he is, he isn't undisputed, nor is he a multi weight World champion. For that reason, it's gotta be Crawford.

Oh, I thought you were asking who it was, not who you thought it should be.
