Interesting - Canelo has stated that he's not interested in fighting for the WBC title when he takes on Golovkin because of their actions when he was holding that belt, but does intend to fight for the IBF belt, which effectively means he's signing up to the rehydration clause.

Canelo is a fair bit shorter than an average middle weight but he is obviously quite a chunky unit. 4lb is 1.8litres of water so not an insignificant amount but not really a problem to recover from in 12 hours, he could even fully rehydrate after the weigh in and then get back in the sauna on the morning of the IBF weigh in, he's been weighing in at 155 for a long time and getting back to 170+ within 48 hours so I don't think it will be a big deal.

Personally I think it's harder for GGG to cut to 160 and hold that to 170 for the day of, he's older and taller, possibly one of the reasons his performance against Jacobs was a bit lack lustre. Let's just hope both guys are at their peak, it has the makings of a historical bout.

At the press conf the other day GGG was a good few inches taller than Alvarez.

Let's have the weigh in on the way into the ring on the night, that'd sort 'em out!

Too much risk of idiots going into the ring dehydrated, with the associated risk of brain trauma.

They should maybe have weigh-ins every 24 hours on the week of the fight?

Surely he wouldn't want to fight Ward?

Tactic to get the big purse in a rematch Vs.Haye?

Ward suggested the other night he'd like to go to heavyweight and wouldn't discount a go at Joshua. Virgil hunter is also quoted as saying he thinks ward could give Joshua the run around... Risky business is that!

Speaking of Joshua, I've just realised it was two weeks ago that Wlad said he'd make up his mind about the rematch 'within two weeks'...

Might well be enough to get the winner an invite into the Cruiserweight 8-man tournament that's being pulled together. Reigning WBC and IBF title-holders Mairis Breidis and Murat Gassiev have already signed up, along with former two-time world champion Krzysztof Wlodarczyk, so he'd be in good company!
I really really hope this tournament happens!
WBA 'regular' Cruiserweight belt-holder Yunier Dorticos now signed up as well...really starting to take shape!

tom leoffler said yesterday he is still 50/50 about hanging them up...but to expect an announcement in the next few days...

i'm torn....i was amazed that a bloke my age could pull off what he did last time and came so close to making history again.......but i don't want to see him slip further and with him being yet another year older by rematch time and joshua coming into his own even more.....it breaks my heart watching stuff like larry holmes wailing on Ali or marciano punching louis through the ropes...

i certainly don't want to see that happen to such a proud guy as wladimir.

i can't wait for that cruiserweight comp!!....don't think we'll see bellew add his name to that list of killers though.....wonder if you'll see ward in as a surprise entry!!!!!!!

Why? George Foreman was older.

but michael moorer was no anthony joshua...6ft 1 inch tall and about 16 stone.....and if you remember the fight moorer was beating foreman well all night till he got sloppy and knocked out with one punch....while it was an incredible feat at 45 moorer was hardly the premier heavyweight on the planet..

klitschko put in an incredible shift against joshua and was winning a dramatic fight where both guys showed immense intestinal fortitude but that performance against that opponent was in my opinion a greater showing than foremans against moorer .....

but yeah, aside from those 2 performances from those 2 guys i can't think of much else in the entire history of the division that has been done at that level at that age

Hopefully Usyk will sign up.

Bellew should stay at home if he knows what's good for him.

ha!!... yeah lot of folklore around the old mongoose!!....nobody ever found out his real age!....but most of the historians place him at about 37-38 when he fought marciano and even though he lost he joined a very elite group of 2 by managing to put rocky down early before admittedly getting a hiding until the stoppage....

it's pretty widely thought he was about 45 when he fought a young clay years later....again, although losing you have to tip your hat to him just being in there!

and don't forget he was only a light heavyweight to boot!!.......although you'd have to rank him atg /#2 at that weight i reckon

On the subject of old fighters, Dennis Andries' last fight was in 1996 - when he was apparently 43.

They always said his age was dubious! Always enjoyed watching his fights - some real good match-ups, Tommy Hearns, Tony Sibson, Jeff Harding etc ...

Surely Bernard Hopkins is the only serious contender to the "Golden Oldie" title, they say he might be older than his reported years too... and there's no doubt he was seriously competitive up until the last... That said he is an alien so maybe it doesn't count.
