The **BOXING** thread Vol 2
Discussion
Interesting - Canelo has stated that he's not interested in fighting for the WBC title when he takes on Golovkin because of their actions when he was holding that belt, but does intend to fight for the IBF belt, which effectively means he's signing up to the rehydration clause.

Personally I think it's harder for GGG to cut to 160 and hold that to 170 for the day of, he's older and taller, possibly one of the reasons his performance against Jacobs was a bit lack lustre. Let's just hope both guys are at their peak, it has the makings of a historical bout.

Might well be enough to get the winner an invite into the Cruiserweight 8-man tournament that's being pulled together. Reigning WBC and IBF title-holders Mairis Breidis and Murat Gassiev have already signed up, along with former two-time world champion Krzysztof Wlodarczyk, so he'd be in good company!
I really really hope this tournament happens! http://www.worldboxingnews.net/2017/06/22/news/cru...
tom leoffler said yesterday he is still 50/50 about hanging them up...but to expect an announcement in the next few days...
i'm torn....i was amazed that a bloke my age could pull off what he did last time and came so close to making history again.......but i don't want to see him slip further and with him being yet another year older by rematch time and joshua coming into his own even more.....it breaks my heart watching stuff like larry holmes wailing on Ali or marciano punching louis through the ropes...
i certainly don't want to see that happen to such a proud guy as wladimir.
i can't wait for that cruiserweight comp!!....don't think we'll see bellew add his name to that list of killers though.....wonder if you'll see ward in as a surprise entry!!!!!!!

but michael moorer was no anthony joshua...6ft 1 inch tall and about 16 stone.....and if you remember the fight moorer was beating foreman well all night till he got sloppy and knocked out with one punch....while it was an incredible feat at 45 moorer was hardly the premier heavyweight on the planet..
klitschko put in an incredible shift against joshua and was winning a dramatic fight where both guys showed immense intestinal fortitude but that performance against that opponent was in my opinion a greater showing than foremans against moorer .....
but yeah, aside from those 2 performances from those 2 guys i can't think of much else in the entire history of the division that has been done at that level at that age

Bellew should stay at home if he knows what's good for him.

They used reckon Archie Moore was nearer 50 when he fought Marciano ?klitschko put in an incredible shift against joshua and was winning a dramatic fight where both guys showed immense intestinal fortitude but that performance against that opponent was in my opinion a greater showing than foremans against moorer .....

ha!!... yeah lot of folklore around the old mongoose!!....nobody ever found out his real age!....but most of the historians place him at about 37-38 when he fought marciano and even though he lost he joined a very elite group of 2 by managing to put rocky down early before admittedly getting a hiding until the stoppage....Us mere mortals Lol
it's pretty widely thought he was about 45 when he fought a young clay years later....again, although losing you have to tip your hat to him just being in there!
and don't forget he was only a light heavyweight to boot!!.......although you'd have to rank him atg /#2 at that weight i reckon
