At least it was a fight worth discussing.
Unlike the Mayweather clownfest.
Quite nice to see so many thoughts on the matter which is great, as this was a good fight. Although not great boxing performances I felt tense watching it through all the away through. Yep the hype got to me, which is what you want. Felt no hype for Pretty boy, that was more morbid interest.

Canelo boxed really well on the ropes, got some good punches in. But a lot of Golovkins did hit, though a lot missed. Golovkin looked marked at the end and Canelo looked tired at some points in it. If you are just throwing a few punches then they will look good as you pick your time, if you do lots then of course when thrown against someone of Alv. caliber a lot will miss.

Not sure anyone in the UK is in the same league. Watched the UK fights beforehand on Boxnation and a lot were very one sided. Yarde looks good, perhaps a bit heavy but even so....Chelli looked ok, his opponent a poor record but good chin.

Getting back to the USA, no matter who you thought won it was not one of those matches after 12 rounds you could go for a beer as you knew the decision, that would have been a 118-110 sort of thing. It was never 118-110.

They would be better with more than 3 judges. You use 7 judges and then disregard the two results that are most extreme. Having just 3 judges will always leave it open to claims of skulduggery. Not sure why this is not obvious?

As I have said i thought Golovkin shaded it but it was one of those fights where you realised why they had 15 rounds in years gone past. Only the onset of fatigue would have revealed a clear winner in this type of fight.

Thing is everyone feels short changed when a fight like this finishes without one fighter on top. We all wanted to know who the toughest Middleweight on the planet was and the answer to that question was inconclusive.

On a lighter note.

Callum Smiths nickname, they said it was a ninja turtles character, but there was never one called callamundo was there?
i thought that was a bit weird myself!!!

true story.....while we are on nickname chat....

years ago when i was at long lane ABC one of the young lads asked me for a job as his ma was giving him grief lounging round the house. i obliged and quickly realised i didn't exactly have a stellar employee on my hands...anyway the banter ensued with this lad telling all the other staff how he used to wipe the floor with me in sparring. in truth he was ok, if a little gun shy....

anyway , after a few weeks he quickly tired of getting up at the crack of dawn to work in a cold wet meat factory and told me he was jibbing it. no problem for me but he had the good grace to work his notice so he stuck around for a week. the banter intensified as did his bravado through the course of the week so i said simple...lets have a fight in the canteen biggrin (yes really...i was a bit less worried about health and safety back then!)

3 rounds..i was a touch heavier than him so agreed he could wear 10s and me to wear 14s......

the stage was set for a friday lunchtime throwdown....

tables and chairs were moved out of the way and we were to make do with a fighting arena of tiled floor and tiled walls.....

so confident was i of victory i placed the princely sum of £20 on the bout...if i win, i keep it , if he wins he trots off with a 20 sheet bonus...the money was entrusted to one of the other staff who was deemed responsible enough to be the sole judge to this epic encounter.....

all week the banter became feverish to the point i thought this titanic battle deserved a headline.......

"the brick hit house "(me) versus "itchy tits" (him)

anyway...to the fight...

he was a flighty little fker who kept running up and down a long canteen so a few of the lads acted as ropes and gave us a ring of sorts to battle it out in...

the bout ended early in round 3 when an uppercut against the wall smashed his head into a light switch (which broke)...i panicked at what might have been and told him we'd best stop before someone got a cracked skull...he readily accepted.

i walked over to the judge to retrieve my 20 quid when he declared the lad the winner and gave him the money.....

all i'll say is i know how golovkin must have felt saturday night laugh

Haye-Bellew II in the pipeline for 17th December at the O2.

Last interview I saw with Eddie Hearn on IFL, he asked Kugan Cassius what he thought of a Sunday event...looks like this is what he had in mind!

Someone mentioned it earlier on here but the BJS vs Khan seems to be gathering pace. BJS is eager for the fight in December, Khan also said he was hoping to fight in December on Saturday night just before the show ended so their timings match.

I was initially thinking Khan might opt for something easier having been out of the ring for a good while but might fancy his chances after seeing BJS's fight on the weekend.

Are we just going to ignore the massive weight difference and that fact that although Saunders doesn't crack particular hard that he could quite easily clean Khan's clock with one punch?

As bad as BJS looked at the weekend, I still think he has Kahns number.

interesting...i had it down that bellew was waiting for the result of fury/ parker to possibly have a pop at the winner....when he was talking to me about coming back to cruiser for andre ward i don't think he really believed that would happen himself. thankfully all the chat about fighting bisping sseems to have subsided....

i know he did say that for the rematch with haye to happen he'd want the purses reversed i.e. bellew get 3 million sheets...

What weight are they fighting at? He prob will if they are fighting at 160!

Just watch GGG Alvarez again, even being biased towards Canelo I still had Golovkin 2 rounds up, Byrd should be struck off for life, her scoring makes absolutely no sense at all.

She should be made to watch the tape back and explain it to Golovkin, especially the scoring of the middle rounds...this is what puts people off the sport. It's pure theft.

BJS v Monroe was a damp squib, looks like there was far more action ringside.
