apparently he was visibly in agony during the post fight chat....alarm bells should have been ringing then, not after he'd gone back to the dressing room and collapsed

I'm thinking maybe because he won the medics would have been looking more at the guy who lost and took thier eye off the ball. Sad loss RIP.

Very very sad. I hold out hope things can be done to stop these tragedies, the simplest being control over weight cutting, although I don't know if it was a factor here, but its a dangerous game and that's part of the attraction for fighters and spectators. It certainly makes me think every time we get a sad event like this.

Yep, that was some body shot. Shame for Joe, he'd trained very hard for this one, never nice been taken out in Round 1.

You don't come back from those though, you could tell when he got up it was probably going to end quickly.

Anyone else have a sneaky feeling that Ortiz will beat Wilder?

It's a difficult one to call, especially because Ortiz may be enhanced..., but at 38 age will most likely be against him resulting in his loss.

Hope Wilder wins, mainly as the buildup to a fight against AJ would be great fun not mention the attractive fight.

They are heavyweights, they are all enhanced, trust me it's a level playing field. Personally I feel and hope that Wilder wins as it sets up great fights in the future. I can't see Ortiz going down to easy though, he looks a hard nut to crack.

I would hope Wilder would be too strong. Sure one of the windmills will connect at some stage......

The irony is this is the guy that claims to to ‘best ever’ heavyweight. TBE BABY!!

Makes me fall out of love with the sport.

Anyway, that’s the single malt speaking, hope it’s a good tear up and Ortiz stays off the peds this time [again].

Well, by the sounds (and looks) of it, he has given himself every chance of doing so - he’s taken this seriously, prepared properly and is in the shape of his career. So, if he fails again, there’s no excuses; he just won’t have made the grade at that level. But I think he’ll have the support and best wishes of just about everyone...certainly got my fingers crossed for him.

To me honest mate the undercard fight I'm most looking forward to is Gavin McDonnell gamal yafai......however it was a very close fight between Allen and Thomas last time...hopefully he can prize that commonwealth title from lenroy this time round

Whenever I see him interviewed, Dave Allen always puts me in mind of a super-sized yet marginally less exciteable version of the Paul Whitehouse ‘Brilliant!!!’ character on the Fast Show...
