Yeah I read that.

In all honesty I think the Povetkin fight makes sense right now for AJ. There's just that danger of him getting caught by him and the unification is off for AJ for a while.

The cynic I am, with Povetkin being in his twilight years, will be more than happy with a Parker style pay off to behave on go out with a nice lump sum.

I love the sport of boxing but imho it's corrupt at the top when big figures are involved.

Yeah pal,...but ryabinsky might have him poisoned for thatlaugh I know for an absolute fact that pricey had a guarantee in his contract he was getting a shot at Joshua if he won...you can bet that for povetkin to sign to fight pricey he was given the same deal...he may not feel like lying down!...wilder has been in on it all along...all the bullst has just been to build the wilder Joshua fight...
The only potential fly in the ointment is that everyone is overlooking povetkin as an over the hill old man. His inside game is superb and he still carries his power....he could really fk things up if he gets inside and unplugs aj....BUT Joshua got up from wladimirs right cross which even at 41 is still probably the second most powerful punch in heavyweight boxing after wilder...

Agree - Povotkin will be seeing this as his big chance and he's got the fireworks to unsettle AJ. Like you say his inside work his top form and the taller AJ will have to watch for the liver shots and uppercuts.

I think it will be a good fight if he's not paid to take a bow - given the stakes for a wilder payday I strongly suspect he will be.

Hello Mystic Tusc thumbup

I read an interview with Wilder's manager yesterday, but didn't post on here as many are fed up with the saga! But he said:

WBN said:
"To clear up one other fallacy, Eddie knows that they have a written term sheet from us which details our $50 million-dollar offer for Anthony Joshua to fight Deontay Wilder in the U.S. We have never received from them a response to this term sheet," Finkel exclusively told World Boxing News before outlining the strained relationship the pair enjoy is not down to his own personal feelings.

"Eddie thinks I dislike him. He is wrong. I just have a difference of opinion with him of what a fact is. When I state something is a fact, I have written proof to back it up. I dare Eddie to do the same," he said.

"I sent them a letter acknowledging Eddie’s email of June 22, telling them they would have the contract back by Friday June 29th.

"Since the contract did not state the date or the venue, I also asked for that information.

"These are the facts and Matchroom will have the contracts back to them by Friday June 29th," added Finkel.
So they are very keen, and just playing a bit of last minute hardball. No reason for the contract to not go back tomorrow I would think. Would be surprised if Povetkin were to happen at this stage, purely as AJ won't be able to motivate himself for the camp for a 'smaller' fight, and fans may not be too thrilled.

Dan Rafael: http://kwese.espn.com/boxing/story/_/id/23906720/d...

""I want to make it clear that Deontay Wilder wants this fight more than Anthony Joshua does, which is evidenced by the fact that Wilder accepted a flat purse for this fight, which is unheard of for a fight of this magnitude," Finkel said.

It is highly unusual for a fighter to accept a flat fee rather than percentage of the revenue for an event that figures to be as massive as Joshua-Wilder. It looms as a nine-figure, worldwide event and one of the two biggest fights in boxing along with the Sept. 15 rematch between unified middleweight world champion Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez. Finkel said their side accepted the terms of the agreement on June 11 and asked Hearn to send a long-form contract.

"This took Matchroom by surprise never thinking that Wilder would accept their below-market offer," Finkel said. "Shortly after, Eddie Hearn went public saying that we would receive a contract by Friday, June 15th, when in fact we did not receive a contract until late on Monday, June 18th. On Tuesday June 19th, we requested a clarification of two points. They did not respond. I requested them again on Thursday, June 21st, and we finally received a response on Friday, June 22nd"

Mate...one way or another Joshua is fighting povetkin next...its all pomp and bluster....i believe joshua/hearn AND wilder/finkel are complicit in this...that fight is fking huge but they are letting it mature nicely...

Mature nicely? AJ has had a contract on the table to extend his deal with matchroom a while now, and yet to sign (which is most strange).

He may well pocket all the cash himself if Eddie doesn't get on with it hehe

if his contract expires after his next fight you might find that he is willingly not fighting wilder until his percentage can be negotiated up a bit....

oh and guess who is wilder's mandatory?....yeah, breazeale!...laugh...hasn't happened yet but i'm pretty sure it's cock on for that fight to happen as well

have a read of this pal....yes it seems its put back to april next year (giving wilder time to wipe the floor with breazeale)

joshua / povetkin september 22nd...but the interesting bit is that team joshua are trying to sort out a multi date deal directly with wembley stadium....which would suggest aj isn't going to kick eddie hearn out of bed just yet!

Also looks like DAZN are not getting a piece of AJ USA soon then either of that is the case.

Yup, fight looks like next year which is a shame, Povetkin fight is still more interesting than miller though, so will do.

P.s. why are you reading a London paper, doesn't it contain to many big words for you scousers to understand? wink

Some belters from the mouth of Fury today...

"Wilder is all wrong for Joshua and Eddie Hearn knows that,"

"Hearn wants Joshua to get a few more fights in before he gets chinned by Wilder,"

"I think it will happen, but Joshua will have to have a couple of more fights to make a few quid while he can and then he will do the fight."

Just teasing, Im not from London myself!

Been thinking about this, and it is such a shame frown as Wilder said, 'the kings should be fighting kings'.

Povetkin is a good fight, but I wouldn't go to watch it or pay for it as its second place, and Joshua has enough money, so will watch on youtube the next day.

Hope others do the same, as if the stadium gets filled and ppv numbers are high (wishful thinking seeing at how many fools paid for the Mayweather-connor fight laugh) , the Wilder fight may end up just being avoided due to the high risk. Plus Wilder is liable to lose anytime, and if he does, that will be the end of that.

Americans fans are very patriotic, so wonder how pissed off they will get over this.

On other matters, did anyone see Dave Allen's fight against Tony Yoka at the weekend? Bit of a shocker really.

For a guy that's been given opportunities that many boxers would sell body parts for, he's really set the bar incredibly low for himself . . . even though he took the fight at 3 weeks notice (which was utter stupidity anyway in my eyes), he was in appalling condition.

I just hope he got paid well and somebody convinces him to either a) quit boxing now or b) take it seriously and apply himself, because he can't be having too many more fights like that. Certainly if he fancies any quality of life in his thirties and beyond anyway.

If I were in Wilder’s shoes, I’m not sure I’d be nodding in agreement with that. He’s holding the WBC strap (‘the one that Ali held’ as is customary to trot out...a bit like Reliant Scimatars and Princess Anne!), he looks the part, he talks the part (copyright E.Hearn hehe ), he’s unbeaten in 40 with a KO percentage in the high 90s(!!!), he’s American and he’s exciting as fk because he clearly has the potential to starch anybody but at the same time is vulnerable himself...yet he’s still very much the B-side in this fight. If I’m Deontay Wilder, I’m not sure I’m feeling the love just yet...!
