Brave of Hughie to travel. Judges are in probably going to be against him.
I suspect he will have to get a knock-out if he wants to win that one. Does he have knock-out power though? If he wins it's a shot at AJ they are saying

Any boxing on tv soon?

It's all gone a bit quiet recently.

Well there is that yes. I just looked at how I could watch it and guess what there is a new pay per view player in town and its BT Sport the one I already pay a premium for because it offered Boxnation.

I am seriously considering doing what others do and find a premium streaming service. I pay over 100 a month for Sky sports, BT Sport and another 20 quid on top every other month for the pay per views - they have gotten too greedy haven't they?

Toprank and ESPN (i.e. Disney Corp) announce new 7 year deal. 54 live boxing events a year.

As I said before, Eddie and Dazn are popping over to play in the big league and was a strange decision from Dazn when they previously stated they won't enter the UK as it is too competitive.

You can't have your big press conference and have the star signing as Michael Buffer when your opposition has Lomachenko, Crawford and so on...

Eddie needs to up his game and fast as the Yanks are rising to the challenge it appears.

And ESPN have Andre Ward as a pundit! https://www.boxingscene.com/andre-ward-inks-new-mu...

Al Haymon inks deal with Showtime AND Fox. Reports of combined budget of $120 Million a year. Not mention the trust boxers place in Al's integrity.

"“Between Showtime and Fox, PBC will have a bigger pool of budget money than any other promoter in boxing, including Eddie Hearn with DAZN,” an industry source who was not authorized to speak publicly told The Ring. "

i think everyone has been sleeping on povetkin.....all the white noise about fury and wilder's on/off fight and the whole joshua/wilder saga....

meanwhile povetkin quietly plugging away sparring hard with quality big lads like dubois...... i still think joshua wins, but not without a few squeeky arse moments along the way.

not too arsed about the khan fight as i see vargas as a level below him.
garcia/porter should be a good fight though!!...

If I were joshua, I would have insisted on povetkin having his full camp in the UK. More confidence in drug test results that way!

they have both been getting fairly heavily random tested in the run up to this fight i've heard...i noticed in the picture of povetkin standing in between all his sparring partners that people are making a fuss over( povetkin with a red look around his cheek and therefore dubois handed him his arse apparentlylaugh ) povetkin has got some serious lads in....there's dubois for a start ( 8-0 with 8 knockouts) and the guy on the right is vlad sirenko, a ukranian kid making some noise(9-0 with 8 knockouts)

I’d say a lot of ‘casual’ fans haven’t been talking about Povetkin - not really surprising given his relative lack of profile over here plus the ‘other distractions’ going on in the division at the moment - but one thing I would say is pretty much every comment I’ve heard given from those in ‘the trade’ say how this is a proper test for Joshua...and quite a few have actually predicted it’ll be his toughest opponent to date.

Personally, I’m not so sure about going that far...while Povetkin may be ranked #3 by the Ring Magazine (which sometimes would be sufficient to see the Ring Magazine belt up for grabs...Groves vs Smith as an example), I think Povetkin looks like he might be a year or two past his peak now, and while the same may have been said about Klitschko when he fought AJ, consensus was the performance he gave that night was one when he really rolled back the years.

That said, as you’ve mentioned, Povetkin has just been quietly going about his preparation, so giving himself the possibility of turning back the clock too...but there again, AJ seems to have focused fully on preparing for this fight as well, despite a million opportunities to be getting involved in the three-ring circus around Wilder, Fury and the potential unification. That he hasn’t, and has let his promotional team deal with all that while he has kept himself away from the limelight, I take as a pretty strong indication that he certainly isn’t looking past the Povetkin fight and is treating it with the seriousness it warrants...

I think it'll come down to if and how early Joshua can establish his jab and prevent Povetkin ducking down and getting his hooks and over hand rights off. There's no doubt if Povetkin can get underneath or slip the jap and unload hooks to body or head then Joshua is going to feel it.

It'll be a tense first 5 rounds but I expect Joshuas size and jab to prove too much later in the fight.

Got to agree pal...povetkin was at his peak a few years ago i reckon....the one thing that worries me is joshua has stated on more than one occasion he will be getting back to being more aggressive and looking for the knockout after being critisized for being too tactical against parker....if he comes in with that mindset its not a good thing..povetkin and his counter loops will have far more opportunity to land if joshua is aggressively coming forward all night

Agree with you, Tusc. He can't be too aggressive in this fight. He needs to soften Povetkin up with his jab and catch him with the left hook as he comes in. If he goes to Povetkin and allows Povetkin to get inside and work, that's terrible news.

I think they're both going about their preparation the right way. It appears as though Joshua is working on lateral movement, a little more head movement and firing that left hook off as soon as the jab lands. Povetkin is sparring some big strong monsters who are no doubt giving him some tough work.

I think Povetkin is certainly past his best but footspeed and possibly stamina aside, he does have the tools to cause Joshua problems if AJ is caught sleeping or acts recklessly.

I keep going back and forth with Garcia vs Porter. I love the energy Porter brings and he closes the distance so fast and just pounces but how well will that work against Garcia and his counter punching style? With no authority at all, I see Porter either squeaking out a close decision or Garcia managing to catch Porter coming in and stopping him. Should be a great fight though.

I was replying to yilitrate there actually ...sorry fred didnt see your post first..but yeah, pretty much spot on.....joshuas biggest weakness in this fight is going to be his (relatively) slow feet movement...those short arm shots thrown from pivoted angles up close are made for fellas who dont shift foot placement quickly

joshua's time with wlad is going to be a big help in this fight...i noticed joshua training with resistance bands on his legs....good move!...

i see garcia catching porter and stopping him late with that left hook...porter is too tough and too aggressive to not get countered to buggery

Great WBSS double-header just announced - Ryan Burnett vs Nonito Donaire will be on the same card as Josh Taylor vs Ryan Martin:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/boxing/45445948

As an aside, I'd always assumed Glasgow was in Scotland...but according to the last line, this announcement means a swift return to Northern Ireland for Donaire, having fought there in his last fight against Carl Frampton! Every day's a school day... wink

ETA - Ha, now corrected by the BBC!
