Good luck to all the PH'ers running to London marathon today. Smash it!!!
3:22 for me, down from 3:28 last year, so well chuffed. Volume of runners still creates a difficulty to manage a decent even pacing, but it's the same for everyone (almost) so it's part of the challenge

Slightly disappointed today as was on for a 4:30 4:45 as was on a PB at half way mark 8 miles. Then Bang IT band Calf went and then leg started to crap. A few bits of walking, stretching, gritting my teeth and a nearly a few tears.
But I finished and that's all that matters might have been an hour longer then I hoped but wow what an experience. London is an amazing city and everyone has been so friendly and helped me push my self.
Raised some money for charity close to my heart so good day all round.
Main dispointment is my fishers tee does have the adidas stripes on the arms! The swines. Oh and one big blister in my foot !
I did Brighton 2 weeks ago (my first marathon) and your post is pretty much exactly the experience I had. They had run out of finishers T-shirts when I crossed the line. Still can't walk But I finished and that's all that matters might have been an hour longer then I hoped but wow what an experience. Thanks - 2:32, today certainly is a good day!
Wow! Fantastic. It was my first ever Marathon yesterday and I was aiming for sub-5 with an ambitious target of 4:30....and came in at 4:27 so as you can imagine was an emotional wreck at the end. Apart from a couple of tearful stops to greet the family at 15 and 18 I ran the whole thing so was really chuffed with myself.
A genuinely cathartic and mind-blowing experience. The support was incredible, the music, the cheering the other runners helping each other.
But by jove it hurts right now - totally worth it.

I was another first time marathoner yesterday. Didn't have any particular expectations about my time, the heat really got to me by half distance. But I finished and that was all I really wanted.
It was a hot one. I checked the weather the day before and said max 14 and over cast. I have no idea how hot it was but felt more like 16/17 Well done to all who completed the marathon yesterday. It's a painful experience but rewarding and no matter what your time, it's something you will never forget.
Trick is to take a week off, put a couple of speed sessions in and then break the 10k and 5k personal bests as you have the stamina part nailed

It is VERY easy to take two weeks off...that becomes a month... that becomes a few months. I have always suffered from post marathon lay offs. Mostly as that has been the focus for all my training, with no other plan.
I would tentatively suggest getting out there for any kind of run is a good achievement soon after a marathon.

Is this accurate time. I've just checked out 2 friends who finished in 3h28 and 5h54 but cant see either of them
The time is the gun time (i.e. from the start of the mass start at 10am), you'll need to add on how long it took them to cross the start line. I think you can get this from their race stats. This year was my second go at London, after completing it in 2011. Didn't really have much time to train because of our first child being last year, but still managed to finish in 3:54 (was aiming for sub-4).
It did feel a lot hotter than 14 degrees, the showers were very welcome.
Incredible support as usual. It's such a great event to do. Might even have a go at the ballot again for next year.....

Out of interest, how many km/miles were you doing per week? Was it very tough after 20 miles?

Other mate was 24mins after the gun so as the programme cuts off at 6h, no hope.
On a related. Photos of the runner at the event are £65! What a rip off! Other sports photogs are better value!

My legs started feeling heavy after about 18 miles, probably due to the lack of both long training runs, and miles overall. Managed to keep going to the end though.
