Anyone here do any Hashing? There's a Hash House Harriers meet not far from me on Wednesday so thinking of going along. Not too sure what to expect.
Did one in Spain and I know a few people who have done a Berkshire one as well. Don't expect the pace to be fast, but do expect the social content to be very high. The Spanish one was very good but more of a walk than any running involvedRizzoTheRat said:

From what I've read and heard, should be a good laugh. RW had an interesting article about travelling hashers, visiting clubs miles away in the likes of Manhattan and having a ball.I think they like the phrase "drinking club with a running problem"...

Ran my first half marathon yesterday!
Actually I ran slightly more, 13.3, as I couldn't remember the exact distance. I felt absolutely awful afterwards.
2:10, quite happy with that. I'm aiming to do the Cardiff half in under 2:00.
Well done. Cardiff's a great half. Busy in the beginning, but I think that's a nice aspect of it. Save a little for the drag around Roath Park and the kick at mile 12 and it's pretty much all downhill from there.Actually I ran slightly more, 13.3, as I couldn't remember the exact distance. Agree with you wholeheartedly about Cardiff. Fantastic half marathon with a superb atmosphere. Haven't run it for a few years and would love to do it again, but I've spectated the past two whilst I've been in town. They sold out of places well in advance this year. Last week was the transfer deadline - I'd never seen the Cardiff parkrun Facebook page that busy with number swaps!

That's certainly the tagline on the local lots website but not a lot of information on there other than where and when the next one is.The jiffle king said:

Sounds ideal then as I'm not particularly quick and just moved to the area. The meet on Wednesday is only half an hour away so I'll give it a go.andy_s said:
On the start line for the Southern Upland Way race organised by GBUltras this Saturday along with my wife, woefully underprepared as it's just been gym stuff the past month, so could be interesting... 340kms/7.6km/100hrs cut. Let's see if I see the finish line !
I see you managed to keep going for 54 hours...! Some effort..well done! Not sure what distance you covered in that time though as the tracking doesn't say?The leader is miles ahead!! Crazy!

Thanks, I'm looking forward to it.My main concern is that I'm not used to running in the morning at all, so will need to start doing that.
One of or local runners set off last week to go for the record for JoG to Lands End - 9 days 2 hours was the target.
He managed 7 90 mile days but blew up yesterday morning.
Just checked and he's set off again, probably aiming to complete it, although I wouldn't be shocked if he did a 24 hour session and beat it anyway! Needs to make it by breakfast time tomorrow (Weds 22nd) for the record.

GPS is moving rapidly along the M4 so he must be heading home.
Dan comes along now and then to a training group I'm in, the thing that amazes me is that as well as being able to do a few hundred miles at 10 min mile pace, he does mile reps at around 6 mins (hence I recognise his rear view better than front!)

Just back and on the sofa - managed about 110 miles with my wife doing about 143 before pulling off. Unfortunately both my feet got blistered very early and very unusually [I added an orthotic that I don't normally use as I had a bout of PF in both feet - this may have increased pressure on the forefoot where both feet gave out - tenofive I read your wise comments too late...], then macerated; the course alternates frequently between classic boggy hill, rock track and tarmac, all being equally uncomfortable, loads dnfed for the same reasons - coming straight from a month only in the gym with no real conditioning or long hill days available is my excuse! The leader is miles ahead!! Crazy!
My wife was hallucinating vividly, talking to trees and falling asleep walking so sensibly retired as night and rain fell - a sound decision.
No regrets or huge disappointment, it was still an interesting experience and seeing how far we could push before wheels flew off was always part of it - what doesn't kill you etc.
I've comments on the organisation as I felt that it fell short in some ways, but overall a great long weekend and good to see some friends from past events.
How the leaders do this stuff so quickly is beyond me, and now having some better appreciation, my cap is well and truly doffed.

Well done. Have you done a 200miler before and did you think you could finish this one? A strava of the course shows nearly 240miles for some people who completed the course! My wife was hallucinating vividly, talking to trees and falling asleep walking so sensibly retired as night and rain fell - a sound decision.
