The Running Thread Vol 2
Discussion
I took part in a stupid Half marathon on Saturday.
Ran from Wolverhampton to Birmingham along the canals in the crazy temperatures. With my health conditions I am always on the verge of being dehydrated at the best of times. Brought a water bladder to try and keep hydrated during the summer but not getting on with it at the moment due to my chest shape.
Started off with 9 min miles aiming for a 2 hour HM. and was ok until mile 8 when my stomach went crazy. and then struggled the remaining 5 miles miles. Amanged a slow shuffle to get to the end in a rather dismal 2:20:38. far to hot to be running that day. Felt almost hungover the rest of the weekend due to the lack of hydration.

Sensible stuff
I completely agree with what you've said. The one change I've made to my workouts is to ensure that each of the exercises I do is beneficial to running. I do a lot more single leg stuff and my core stuff includes more rotational or opposing work, not just tons of main-abs or back work.On the gait side, I suppose at some level you have to buy in to the whole "my natural gait has been interfered with by shoes, I'm just reversing that process" viewpoint. I do. I can certainly say I like the feel of running at a higher cadence, and it's certainly more natural on the trails which is where I run more now. But I was really a plodding hard heel striker as an adult runner. Much less so as a kid in daps.
Your (or your physios) prescription for injury is the same one I've arrived at: Back off or rest completely, don't ignore it or hope it'll go away. And stop thinking of strength and condition work as rehab. Much as I hate the term prehab, it has its uses. Essentially, make the S&C a routine, not something you do only when you're injured.
My conclusion, as your experience seems to bear out, is if you do S&C regularly your injury rate is much lower, or nil. Over-training becomes the biggest cause for concern and is exactly the reason I have a niggly shin again. Too much intensity too soon. I have the fitness, but not the muscle/ligament capability (nor the ego-control/intelligence/self-analysis/ability to learn from experience yet again!).

I did this race last year. Even with overcast conditions, it was hardwork along the canal towpath and the various bridges towards the end are a real killer to your momentum.Ran from Wolverhampton to Birmingham along the canals in the crazy temperatures. It also doesn't help that it's actually a good bit longer than the standard 13.1 mile half marathon distance due to the necessity of having the start and end points where they are.

I was meant to do this race this year but decided otherwise based on the heat. Running down that canal does take a surprising amount out of you with all the bridges and locks (further down past the finish). It also doesn't help that it's actually a good bit longer than the standard 13.1 mile half marathon distance due to the necessity of having the start and end points where they are.

9am and 200 of us got on the boat for the 2 hour sailing to lundy , other than the bar and a few gazeebo's there was no shelter on the island.
However as pure trail organised it everything ran like clockwork , the feed stations were well stocked and generous , as you came in they'd fill your bottles/camelback , someone else would drench buffs/caps and at the finish line they stuck wet towels over your head .
Well worth checking out next year.

https://semi-rad.com/work/ - the films are pretty good too. How To Run 100 Miles was a great watch.
ETA - Cheers - weird - link fails, but copy and paste the URL and it's fine. Ah well - link to the whole store. I bought "fk this st"

"404 Page Not Found."Pretty much sums up my Strava history for the last month
I really hate the heat, jogged down to the station to pick the Mrs up at gone 10 last night thinking it had cooled off enough to go for a run, but while the first km or so was fine the humidity was horrendous once I'd warmed up.

2) How do you stick your race number on your shirt?
Thanks in advance
If you don't like the idea of putting pins through your t-shirt or snagging a nylon running top you can use theseThanks in advance

I was out at 5.30am today for a cheeky 6k before leaving for work. Cooler than of late, but I still got back bathed in sweat. I find cycling tolerable but running is dreadful in this weatherPretty much sums up my Strava history for the last month

It must only be 5 or 6 miles right round the island, how many laps did you have to do for a marathon?
they kind of split the island into 3 and we looped the 3 bits http://www.puretrail.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/07...tim2100 said:
