Not strictly on topic, but I doubt we're going to get a sustainable thread about European rugby on its own, so I figured it might as well come in here.

There have been some surprising cricket scores this weekend!

Quins, Lyon & Gloucester all won by 20 points or more with bonus points, and Gloucester & Lyon did it away from home. That might've been expected against the comedy Italian and Eastern European victims, but they were all playing French Top 14 sides!

Shocking news, dreadful and heartbreaking news. Anthony Foley has died aged 42.

Unbelievable. Was just looking for the game on Sky and couldn't understand why it wasn't on.

Leaves a wife and three children. RIP.

Bristol get to premiership after 7 year break with well regarded manager. Then sack him after 7 games. Seems harsh.

Clearly players are not good enough for prem rugby but that's hardly Robinson's fault given the circumstances of promotion.

Bristol haven't won a first team game since the first leg of the final in May. Enough is enough. Robinson has had the look of a man who knows the game is up for weeks. Time to move on. Perhaps then we can get a decent coaching set up put in place, and come back stronger even if we have to spend another season in the Championship.

Robinson could start coaching Norway, win a test series in New Zealand and the World Cup to boot, and he's still going to look like that. It's his only look!

I'll admit that I'm looking forward to seeing if Josh Charnley can tear it up in the 15 man game too. Seriously nearly a try a match over 170ish games is phenomenal no matter which way you look at it

Just waiting Sale vs Sarries at the moment. Surely Peter Stringer must be knocking on for sixty by now? He seems to have been playing since forever! biggrin

I'm on the train on the way home from Big Game 9 with a happy, knackered 8 yr old. smile

The poor first half was more than made up for by the excitement of the second half, with Quins holding on for the win as the cherry on top. biggrin

Gloucester were also the opponents for this fixture last year, with the two results being a 39 all draw and a 28-24 win to Quins today, both of which went right down to the last play.

I rather hope we can have Gloucester as the opponents every year for this match, as it makes for some great rugby, and their fans are really nice too. smile

As you say, the first half, or at least the first 20 mins or so, were a disappointment after the series of televised games I watched over Christmas, but as you say, it was a cracking second half.

I was there as a "neutral" good 2nd half... Quins fans really need some more inventive songs / chants ... hehe

This is very true. Although my son and I had good fun with the Gloucester ladies in the row behind us, the atmosphere in general isn't great, and it's not just because Twickenham is so bloody massive, as the Stoop doesn't generate much atmosphere either.

One that did amuse me was the Quins fans timing the chant of "Har-le-quins, Har-le-quins" to to match the Exeter Indian chant during the Anglo-Welsh cup match. hehe

Some interesting wins over the weekend, great turn around from Bristol to beat Sale.

In other news I see that Tigers have just sacked Cockers

The crows have been circling for a while over Cockerill.
They were talking about him being on the edge about 1-2 months back.
Unfortunately as soon as those rumours start to come about its a matter of time.

Strange timing though - mid year, still in with a chance in competitions & no clear replacement - unless they promote from within. Maybe its chance to give Mauger 1/2 a season to see if he is up to the level?

Yeah seems a strange decision to make half way through the season when they are 5th in the league

Brutal decision and timing. Must have had compelling reasons?

I'm a long term Tigers fan and my father in law has been a season ticket holder for a very very long time. In fact, my wife's entire family are all born and bred Tigers fans and not one of us thinks he should have gone. As you say, despite not being at the very pinnacle of the league, we are still 5th and are still up to beating anyone.

Whilst everyone knows we're just not good enough right now, given his record and obvious knowledge of what makes a winning team it seems odd to get rid of him. I can only imagine that there is some sort of clash between him and the board because I do not believe that replacing him mid season is going to suddenly increase our performance, especially as the problem at the moment is inconsistency.

Having said all that, I'm happy to be wrong if it means we start playing better!
