I tend to take it off every now and then, maybe 6 times in a round. I would agree that taking them on/off stretches them more.

Putter won't need replacing for a while... Bought myself a mint Scotty Cameron California Monterey. The feel of this in comparison to the Ping Anser I played with before is night and day. Not necessarily the answer to my current issues in my game, but certainly helps if I'm getting better on the greens!

Having a torrid time with my driver recently so I left it at home Sunday and played with just my trusty old TM R5 3 wood off most of the tees, lost a bit of distance but hit all but one of the fairways rather than spending vast chunks of my weekend searching for lost balls In woods and lakes.

Think I will just continue without it for a while, before convincing myself It must be the club and not me and purchasing a new one

A mate of mine plays with one of those mini drivers, sort of a 3 wood with lower loft. Anyone had any experience with them?

Yes! I have a Ping G Stretch 3 wood, 13 degrees. I hit it further than most people I play with (hitting drivers) and it's more accurate than my driver. Try one!

I seemed to make good use of my driver today (having gone from only being able to hit a horrific slice a few weeks ago)..... shame my short game was utter dog turd.

Ditto! I love a tee biased 3 wood. I've a g400 stretch 3 wood that I was fitted for at ping last month, it's very impressive, averages within 10 yards of driver but with much much tighter dispersion. Probably still in the honeymoon period of a new club! Surprisingly easy to hit off the deck too.

Played today at my local course. Went around in 92 which is my best score so far. Still a lot of work to do, but I can feel myself getting more confident in that I can usually put a good swing together to make a decent strike.

Finally went for my first round of 9 yesterday after months on driving ranges, I got a 44 on 9 par 3s which I don't think is too bad for my first go my putting let's me down badly which I'm working on.

Bought a new second hand set of clubs today too, they're Dunlop 65is which I got for £40 and look brand new! After a brief go down the driving range I much prefer them to my previous clubs.

Looking to get a couple of more rounds in before I venture to a new course, for a pay to play course Stanmore is quite nice for a beginner.

I've loved it the two times I've played there. You've got to try and drive the 10th green!

You're doing really well. Single-figures are on the cards in a couple of years, I reckon.

Thanks Jim. Even if i could get to a ~10-15 handicap in a few years I would be happy. Just gonna keep practicing and see what happens. I’d love to play off ~scratch at some point, but who wouldn’t? If anyone is in Herts/north London and fancies a game let me know.

Shooting sub-100 inside your brief experience would be an impressive achievement.

A 92 is a fair-to-excellent round of golf by the standards of 75% of players who've been at it for 20 years.

Keep it up, keep thinking hard about the realities of your situation on the course and the realities of your capabilities, work hard on your swing and work harder on your putting, and keep referring back to a trusted pro!

I honestly think at this great rate of progress an 82 is possible this time next year if you concentrate on learning from every mistake.

I hope this doesn't sound patronising, I'm genuinely very impressed.

Went again today... shot 94 which I was happy with, could have easily been 90 had I not duffed a few chip shots onto the greens. We got caught up in a huge queue of people (including one 5 ball? wtf) so ended up skipping a few holes and then going back to play them at the end which kind of phased us both a little bit.

I am definitely understanding the actual game more, rather than just ball hitting. A few times I played a too shorter club in order to keep the ball in play and leave a 100yd approach shot, rather than just thing "fk it... I am gonna just whack it as hard as I can"

Played at Millbrook today for the first time, Jesus Christ.... it’s a brutal course.

101, wanted to just break 100 so was not too far off my target.
