I wish he'd do something about the standard of refs in the Championship.

Thanks for all the answers.

I played in a game once where it was so windy you couldn't kick the ball out in one direction as ball would get blown back into play - you could barely pass it. It made goal kicks impossible.

I was playing fly half and, as we were st hoofing it into touch was our main game plan, leaving my thundering lack of pace thoroughly exposed.

Reminds me of Felipe Contepomi's penalty kick for Leinster over at Connacht, where the Atlantic wind blew the ball back through the posts. Ref had to take a moment before awarding the three points

Not that many on here will care about Ulster Rugby:

Now just need some of the board that have done the previous hiring and firing to go with him. Wonder if Mark McCaul feels like returning to where it all started...

No real surprise with Kiss leaving. I quite liked Gibbes from his days at Leinster a few years ago, and think he could be the right man to take Ulster forwards now

I think the Paddy Jackson / Stuart Olding alleged rape case is talking over Ulster rugby at the minute

Not so sure - Ulster rugby/IRFU were very quick to effectively suspend them once the initial allegations came out. From what has been in the press, i don't think they'll be playing rugby for a while...

I suspect Schmidt isn't too happy with his captain showing up in court a few days before the 6Ns kicks off: https://www.google.ie/amp/s/www.balls.ie/amp/rugby...

Personally I've felt it's been time for a new Irish captain for a while now in preparation for the RWC anyway

Yes Best has been an excellent captain and player but the signs are there to see,it's time for him to move over now on the domestic front also.

Hi all,

Just for anyone who may not have seen the other thread, I've just added a Fantasy 6 Nations pool onto https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

We've had one for the last few years, so this one should be no different!!! biggrin

I was at a club game this afternoon, kicker lined up a conversion, it hit the post, bounced back towards him and without hitting the ground, or anyone else, he took a volley kick, more out of frustration than hope, it hit the post for a second time and went over! Two points or not two points, that is the question?
I would guess at yes 2 points as the ball hadn’t gone dead. A bit like if you kick a penalty you can score a try off a rebound off the posts
Interesting scenario! There is nothing in th laws to cover it one way or the other, so I suppose it would all come down to the ref deciding whether or not the rebound off the post counted as outside assistance?
Interesting conundrum. If he’d caught the ball then drop kicked it over would that be 3 points?

No, because to drop kick it the ball has to touch the ground.

Sorry should’ve been.clearer. Could he have drop kicked it for 3 pts assuming all things prior were equal after the ball had rebounded off the posts.

No, because a drop kick involves letting the ball hit the ground!

I am aware of the mechanics of a drop kick. Never mind

As said further up, play ends as soon as the ball hits another player or the ground, hence a drop goal not being an option.

The whole debate here was only a debate because the ball only hit the posts between the two kicks, nothing else.

I have been asking about quite a bit on this one. I still don't have the definitive answer although the most popular answer is that it depends what side you were on! I was running the line, I gave it as a conversion, the ref didn't, and when I spoke to him about it after he conceded that he had no idea.

The ball is “dead” as soon as the conversion is attempted. You can’t have a second go at it.
