Down your way (- ish anyway) I fished the Grand Union in the middle of Warwick with my LACC friend in 2018 . Unlikely urban setting , but lots of perch , and some zeds. The most surreal part of the day was fishing in an aqueduct which crosses the Avon . I so wanted to catch something 20 feet ABOVE a river . Needless to say I failed -next time ?

I know that stretch of the Grand Union John, yes it’s cool where canal and river meet, and there’s quite a few places local that it occurs tooThat stretch I fished close to Leamington had a section by the river, another area I need to go back to.
Here’s a panorama of the river in the centre of Evesham.

Sad to hear the passing of Geoffrey Palmer today.
He was a big enthusiast of fly fishing and won the 'One Fly' competition on the Test a few years ago with his team.
A fine fellow and made a lovely program about the 'art' with his tribute to Isaak Walton.
RIP
Yep spotted that too, a great man gone again sadly. He was a big enthusiast of fly fishing and won the 'One Fly' competition on the Test a few years ago with his team.

And thanks for keeping the thread alive too, not many replies for over a month!
Still none of us have heard from Andy if he ever got his gear set though!

Did you get on the water before the seasons' end?
No more fly fishing for me till April ; I used to fly fish for grayling right through the cold months but although I caught a decent number , I far prefer trotting with my lovely Harrison GTi 12ft . I am lucky to fish a river with grayling up to a genuine 3 lbs plus ( although my best is a frustrating but still wonderful 2-13) and the thump thump of a big grayling 20 yards down a fast pool on a cold winter day is addictive.
Some light lure stuff on the river for me before the floods with some great sport on pike to 8-9lbs

Well, a very enjoyable first grayling trip yesterday , with six , including fish of 1-14 and 2-7 . We can trot on my river in winter, but only on worm and no loose feeding , so a very mobile approach is needed. Big bags are rare (compared to where I can fish with maggot) but the quality is wonderful.
I also fish much heavier than I would on hard fished waters, using small baits. I used a 4 AA Drennan Loafer float , and 12 and 14 Kamasan B983 hooks on 0.15mm (5-14 BS ) Reflo . I am fishing fast , snaggy water with a fair amount of colour , and want to land big fish quickly , as grayling do need careful handling .
Forgive the simply awful picture - I had the shakes !

Oh , it's ok , if a bit heavy on destination fishing normal folk can't afford. So many former regular buyers now sneer at it , ignoring the fact that it was the only show in town for years . I use the odd fishing forum but it ain't the same - too many shouty people loudly disagreeing with each other . Hmm, what does that remind me of ?
