Hi all,

Do we have any scuba divers here?

We just completed our CMAS 1 star open water.

Have been diving for years, so we decided we would go further.

I've achieved PADI Advanced Open Water Diver.

Think that's somewhere between Class 1 and Class 2 CMAS?

Are you doing SAA or just CMAS?

We will continue with CMAS, then convert to PADI.

We have been diving with this crew for several years, but just never went for the certification.

We do all our diving in Marmaris, Turkey, as the water is so clear and warm.

There is also a wreck that we dive to on regular dives.
There is a second wreck, but we have not dived to it yet.

No need to convert CMAS is a worldwide accepted dive qualification, put the money to more dives,

I went Scuba diving on holiday

Part 1 of the PADI Open water course
really enjoyed it

Although , controlling my BCD was a bit weird, I started bobbing without adjusting it and then I threw up laugh

Curious, more worried about the throwing up part as BCD control normally takes a little time.

Where did you do it, I ask because UK or cold water diving is a little different to normal holiday sites diving.

I was fine controlling it, I was swimming for about 10 minutes fine with only making minor adjustments. Then for some reason I started floating up rofl I hadn't changed anything at all haha!

I just got sea-sick from floating up and then bobbing about face down in the water.

I did it in Malta. With a centre called Aquatica. It was recommended to me by someone on here. They were lovely people!

Recommend doing the course in the UK completely, for a few reasons:
1. It's colder and visibility is shorter, meaning that when you go to Greece it'll feel really easy; and you'll spend more time enjoying the dive.
2. You won't waste any time on holiday getting qualified
3. The schools in the UK can be very good (especially if you go for a PADI 5 star place). PADI standards are the same worldwide but the teachers here can be a bit better than ones you get on resort.

rofl

I would like to carry it on and get open water certified but, I have to be honest, diving in the UK doesn't appeal to me.
Everywhere is cold, windy and the only things to see under water is a Honda Jazz that some old biddy has driven into the sea and some horrible fish.

I don't go abroad enough to warrant doing it :-(

To be fair, that last guy looks awfully cute!

I may look into it, even if it's just to keep my existing PADI stuff up to date (I think it's 12 months before the part we've done expires).

yes My wife and I are both keen divers. We don't dive as much as we'd like to though; normally just a week's trip once a year plus the odd pool session.

This. Training should be harder than playing.

I did my Padi OW in the UK in December and then did 2 weeks in Egypt. Very glad I did it that way around. I did my Advanced in the UK as well. I have dived in the Pacific and Med with people I had never met before and in both cases as soon as I said I was UK trained the questions stopped.

The word you are looking for is dinner, along with scallops, crabs and slow lobsters!!

Above all, do what you want, I love UK diving, me abroad is a chuntering "not as good here as home" but I know UK is not for everyone. dry suit and hood can make one feel claustrophobic.

Any questions please ask away, I will try to help or at least I might now someone who can.

PADI is good to get you to dive, I would suggest transfer to SAA or BSAC as they have more of the club scene, you know, beers and talking a good dive in a pub....
