Wiggins now going for rowing Olympic medal?
Discussion
Messed the start, according to the BBC article, as he thought the race had false started. Depending on when you caught on, that might have taken 2-5 seconds off.
Still he was pulling c 1:36/500m, I could only just beat that split over 1000m, nevermind 2k! I was at best 1:43/500m for 2K.
A horrible thing the erg - perversely when I was fit enough I sort of enjoyed it, more so in the posh gyms that are nowhere near rivers, as everyone looks at you like you're a freak
I may not erg again as I managed to delaminate a bicep tendon doing repeat 30s:30s - took 2 years to heal..... But there is one in my garage that I cant bring myself to sell for some reason.
Given the pain it me took to go from 1:45 splits to 1:43, I would be very impressed if he could drop from 1:36 to 1:30 by next year, the minor difference of him being an ultra world class athlete and me not might give him an edge though....;)

He was aiming for 6:02 according to James Cracknell. The video on BBC clearly shows him stop briefly but if you look at his 500m splits he got progressively slower whereas the top rowers all absolutely smashed the final 500m. A decent time but I thought he would have been closer to his target based on his cycling time trial and 1hr WR experience plus the fact it's a lot less technical than road cycling.
Bumped in to him at the event and he claimed to have only done 1 2k test previously in January which was over 7m.
Very odd, I doubt Cracknell would be recommending that as a training strategy.
He died on his arse (relatively speaking) in the last 500m and the so called false start made little difference.

I was hoping to be proved wrong by Wiggins, but by all accounts this appearance at the indoor championship was a bit of a disaster.
Doesn't quite match up to the hype (if it can be called that) beforehand about challenging the GB squad times. And I can't help feeling that his "training" with James Cracknell was in fact several long and boozy sessions down the pub with a double doner and chips to finish off.

Exactly this. All matey back slapping and lots of booze. Kidding yourself that the scales going up is all that curry turning to muscle. The fact is there is zero chance of getting into an Olympic boat for Bradley. This will all be about a documentary for tv and a pay day for him and his new pal jimbo.Doesn't quite match up to the hype (if it can be called that) beforehand about challenging the GB squad times.
