if so...

What's your take on injured volunteers/players who then miss work/school as a result of an injury sustained at the club, in this case playing?

England Rugby website guidance had me raising an eyebrow when i considered what RIDDOR demands.

Anyone here ever got to the bottom of the correct course of action recording and reporting injuries?

Not sure what the rules are in England, but in Scotland the SRU have a serious injury form that has to be submitted for any player sustaining an injury during a game / training.
All club members are automatically covered by the basic insurance provided by the SRU - this however doesn’t amount to much and in my amateur grass roots club we encourage any self-employed players who may suffer financially from being unable to work for a few weeks from an injury etc. to ensure they have their own higher level of insurance in place.
With regards to kids injuries, especially head knocks and concussions then there is a strict series of protocols and graduated return to play procedures to follow.
