Hardly watched any this time round due to the time difference.

Watched the highlights when the British girls were kicking butts; Snowboard Cross ‘Bart Simpson style’ is always good fun, as is biathlon.

The Skijump freestyle half pipe thingie is lame though.

A mate has just found out that we can try curling for £160 (8 people for two hours) biggrin The venue is two hours drive away though. frown

I thought this too. In fairness I saw one of the very low scorers yesterday but as I type I'm watching some of the leaders and they are a little better but it's not a patch on the snowboarding which is great to watch.

I do like the Ski Cross, but comparing the other Freestyle Ski events to the Snowboard equivalent feels like you're watching the Snowboarders' dads trying to show that they can be cool too.

Elise Christie DQ'd in heats for 1000m.

Don't think she's got an Olympic medal in her unfortunately.

Possibly so, don't know much about this sport but reading form into the betting odds, she was 3rd-4th on most of the events anyway. I thought it would be something like one bronze and a silver. I don't mind seeing the Koreans winning at home in this though.

Just a shame as it is a minor sport in this country, without an Olympic medal you don't necessarily get the recognition as a world class competitor (which she is).

Seems fairly pragmatic about it on the interview at least.

I got slagged off for my observations of her on page 2 of this thread. Maybe if she didn't have those ridiculous false eyelashes on she could have gone a bit quicker. Don't know why she got a second chance after that first trip on the heat anyway.

Other stakers skate caught her, as I understand it they wouldn't have restarted otherwise.

I can't quite understand why the BBC are spending so much time fawning over her. Are there no other sports on this morning?

The speed skating relay has to be the maddest thing I've seen yet!

I would not want to have been a judge in that relay.

I think she only has herself to blame. She’s proven on the world circuit but she’s quite an emotional character and probably applies far too much self pressure for an Olympic gold.

yep, world champ at 1000m so more than capable of winning. top class athlete with mental frailty . contrast with lizzy yarnold . not a lot of form coming into the games but the capability to raise her game to another level when it matters. all competitive activities are the same. at the top level some participants are unbelievably consistent at all times, others less so but can raise their game when it counts. then there are those that have the odd success but more often than not fail at the final hurdle on the big occasion.

I’m assuming team GB have some sports psychologists to try and combat this.

She was the face of Team GB at the Winter Olympics, A quick google confirms this & she was in numerous Olympic build up shows, so bound to get the most attention.
And more criticism as she failed so spectacularly . Very fine lines in that sport!

Much like Jessica Ennis was the face on London 2012, but thankfully delivered & got the team going.

I was listening to the radio earlier this evening and they said that she had picked up an injury in October and also didn't take part in the European Championship last month. So maybe not up to proper speed/preparation.

World Championships are in the middle of next month in Canada.

Eve Muirhead did a fantastic shot in a tense game, her and the team should be proud.
