A bizzare occurance happened sunday. I Played wih my in laws, and FIL tees off on the 12th with the driver. At the very same time a small bird of some sort flew from right to left about 50 yards out from the tee, you can see where this is going.

I would like to to tell you it was only clipped and we picked the poor little mite up and rescued it.

What really happened was it was decapitated and fell to the earth in 2 peices followed by a shower of feathers, cut clean in two by the ball. At east death was instantaneous for this litte critter.

He has now earned the nickname murdering bd.

Just out of curiosity, he reckons the ball ended up in the rough because of the bird strike, and proceeded to hit another off the tee penalty free. What would be the official ruling on that?

(Murdering bd beat me by one point too)
I was listening to 'The Cut' podcast last night, it was an old episode with Eddie Pepperell, who told a very similar story about one of his playing partners in a recent PGA Tour event that did just that (the poor bird ended up in 2 pieces). The ruling was that they played the ball as per normal, no free shot.

That said I just found a tweet from him that totally contradicts that...

And here's a link that contradicts that...

I don't think hitting a bird is any different to hitting a tree or any other natural part of the course. You'd play the ball as it lies, subject to it not being in a hazard or OB. I'm positive you don't get a mulligan!

I forgot to mention that my almost hole in one the other day was on the only par 3 without a nearest the pin prize so there was not even a reward for that.

We played Willingdon yesterday on the Seaford Head Captain's day out, I was in the first group and here's a pic of my drive on the 8th, the only small problem was the line was there for another competition and the prize on that hole was for longest drive, needless to say that my drive distance was later beaten into 4th place by the young long hitters.

The prizes continue to elude me but it doesn't really matter as I'm enjoying the trying.

So dry on my course now it's playing at least two clubs shorter.

It's awful and makes things really hard to judge. Landing anything on the green now is pointless as it will just bounce off but knowing how far something is going to run if you lay up is just guess work.

I shot my one and only hole in one on a club trip to Penina in Portugal.

It was the 8th hole and the distance was 164 yards (not sure why I remember this!)

I hit my 6 iron perfectly and it pitched 3ft from the hole then went in. I had to have one of my playing partners check to see if it was in the hole as I couln't look.....

I never saw it go in, as there was a bunker and small rise in front of the green, obscuring the bottom of the flag.

I think the bar bill was around 90 euros for our group of 18 as not everyone wanted a drink(eek), but it was paid by my insurance upon proof that it was in a competition etc.

Looking forward to my next one in a round 10 years time.

It was great fun at my course yesterday. I hit 3 or 4 downwind drives that rolled out to 330-340 yards. I played like a complete donkey otherwise and shot 3 over my hcp. I should have been 4 or 5 under. I missed the green from 50 -75 yards about 4 times furious

The highlight was hitting a 9i into a par 5 for my second from the first cut. It landed on the green short of the pin but would have been about 20 yards through the back if it hadn't smashed in to the pin and dropped on the edge of the green.

Its the opposite here - rainy season so we get zero roll with the ball on the fairways. Monday was a Public Holiday here, so took the chance to play both Sunday and Monday. In all honesty, both rounds were "scratchy" to say the least. Had some really good holes, some really poor holes. It seemed to go in a sequence: bogey, double bogey, double bogey, birdie, par, par, bogey, par, par - rinse and repeat for both days.

Once again, putting is my biggest handicap. I reckon we have a 7-8 on the stint for the greens, but I know this and should allow for it!!!

Good morning on the course for me today. Shot 80 (Par 72, just under 6,300 yards) even though I left 2-3 shots out there (chunked PW and an errant 6I are two I can name).

This I feel is me playing twice last weekend and then hitting the range 1 day after work - felt very comfortable over the ball.

I’m playing at the Manor at Castle Combe on Thursday, I play to low-mid 20’s - am I going to want to walk off quickly?

Not particularly long off the tee but I’m reasonably straight, course does not look short!

Must admit I am quite enjoying the conditions at the moment - lots of long irons off the tee and silly length drives, always get a decent lie and you have to think your way round, like on a Links. At our courses I'm finding if you fly the ball all the way to the green is still stops, but if you miss and hit the fringe you're going 40 yards through.

Although I am still up to my old tricks - played 18 yesterday, shot 2 over my handicap and didn't hit a single (correct) fairway all day. I'm starting to think I've got the yips off the tee - go to the driving range and repeatedly hammer the ball straight, go on e lads holiday to Devon where we never teed off with less than 4 pints down is - hammer it straight and long. On the course - all over the shop.

Brilliant effort

Managed to get out this morning, for some reason my game was messed up...normally long game has been good and my short game not, the opposite was true today!

Played match play against a friend, lost 2 balls slicing the ball (I normally draw!), funniest thing is I still won the holes! (Both with a bogey - otherwise birdie!)

Corse wasn't playing particularly long though - got on the green of our 280 yard 17th with a 3 wood and had sub 150 into 2 par 5's (one with a 3 off the tee...) - only 1 eagle though! - Thankfully down the last to A/S the game!

Had my best round of the year last Thursday at Pine Ridge in Camberley. Highlight was a 205 yard 4H high draw around some pine trees from the left side of the fairway to a pin tucked middle left of the green. Stuck it to 15 feet.

Fairways are baked though. Anything with 20 yards of the green, especially to a front pin, is a putt!

Play well guys.

Good shooting Tex! +1 and +4 is mighty impressive in these conditions - congrats!

I'm breaking all sorts of records at the moment, and not good ones. Played in a Mid Week Stableford comp on Thursday, ended up with 24 points....with a birdie and an Eagle on a Par 5. Then had a charity comp yesterday and ended up with 28 - but if my provisionals that landed in play had been my first ball, I would have ended up with 40.....

Sad thing is my approach play and putting are about the best they've ever been, and my short game is going well too. But when you're taking 5 off the tee - and the first one was a 4 iron to find the fairway - you don't really give yourself much of a chance.

Going the range a few times this week to get a handle on it, as I have a 36 hole Open at Conwy on Sunday, and if my long game stays like this, it's going to be a VERY long day.

Signed
Bodhi Baker-Finch.
