Played to at Aylesbury Vale for the first time today. Still struggling to get used to the dry conditions and not really knowing which clubs to hit. Did ok today though and made 88. Could have been a better score had I not lost my head on 2/3 holes.

For the purposes of your handicap, would you not be submitting an 85?yorky500 said:
88 is a damn good score but you may just be dropped a shot when you submit the 85! hahahaha
Southgate doing well after 11 holes
Actually contemplating trying to get my first proper handicap soon... just need to join the local club which is about 85 quid for HC purposes.Southgate doing well after 11 holes
When I became member of my golf club the greens weren't watered so we learned the pitch and run shot. It was impossible to pitch the greens because the ball would just bounce on through, sometimes out of bounds, so from 170 yds we took and 8 iron and let it run on into the green. Similarly today, people cannot understand why from 20 or 10 yds I use an 8 iron and not a sand iron or pitch. I just grew up like that, and I more often than not make the par. Today I watched the U17 national championship here in France and some of them just could not understand the extremely dry conditions.
As a guy who takes the odd 110 shots around the municipal golf courses I do worry that Sky getting to show it live rather than being on free view is a wrong turn for UK golf taking the ready money now and not looking at the big future. They say middle aged men are instead turning to cycling rather than golfing. Given that, and the fact that Le Tour is currently on more than one free tv station it does make you wonder if our old bastions of golf really have not grasped what is happening.
Wimbledon is still on BBC, the Open should still be on BBC protected. Both should be on. Having said that I am happy to wait to the highlights at 8pm each evening with a nice whisky. 2 hours is pretty good apart from showing the housewife's favourites too much.
Radio 5 live commentary is really good and I may listen to it tomorrow before watching the highlights.
Finally, Peter Alliss is looking very frail. He's never been the most PC of commentators but he has done some great description over the years. Like Murray Walker. Two fantastic voices of their sport. You know a good commentator when they commentated for more than your entire childhood

What are those 'tabs'? sticking up out of Tiger Woods collar at the back?
Kinesio Tape. He strained his neck on Wed or Thursday.Wikipedia says 'found no convincing scientific evidence that it provides any demonstrable benefit in excess of a placebo'.

Is it rather like those tapes that a lot of athletes wore on their nostrils a few years ago?

Good to see Tiger getting back to something like his old form. I’ve never liked him as an ambassador for the sport (spitting, swearing, scowling etc) but he’s one of the finest golfers of his generation and he’s fought his way back it seems.
Some superb golf over the last few days too by so many players. Epic long putts sunk and some monster drives. Even the weather’s been kind, which for a links course in the UK is a miracle.
