... and good middle order batting.
And don't we need it. In three innings so far, our top 4 batsmen have only scored more than 30 twice.
Make that four innings. Once again we need the middle order to come to our rescue.

Can’t have been an easy decision, but it’s a bit of a stretch at this point to assume he’d have faired any better than the rest of the middle order.

Still, good news for Cook, with an innings-topping score..!

Other than the last time we were in trouble he hit his maiden half century. And made a good 40 in his previous innings. I think he is our 3rd highest scoring batsman isn't he?

I would check but I cannot seem to find the batting averages for the players in this series.

Bugger, I think the tourists just had the upper hand in that session...

Now we need Anderson, Broad and Woakes to make the most of the conditions and skittle the Indians this evening...

Very disappointed that Broad gave Pant a mouthful after getting his wicket when the guy is on his debut... why? Why? It's just a stupid mentality that the team seems to have. Do we not learn when Australia screw it up royally? For a similar reason I would have dumped Stokes and kept Curran. We have too many rotten apples.

Pant has his revenge though.. nice work

Hope India win this one.

Well yes, any thing is possible, but given that the rest of the team got skittled, I’m going to assume he’d have faired similarly.

Not that it would have made a jot of difference in the grand scheme of things.

It was a very easy decision.

No guarantee the result would have been any different, but that sort of change simply was not needed, and small things like that can distract a team.

Stokes was poor with the ball and bat in the first innings. Now we are on the end of a drubbing if we are not very careful. Absolutely we could have been if Curran was still in the side. But we'll never know. Meanwhile, the selectors need to accept they have egg on their face. One major thing wrong with English cricket right now - they will never entertain doing that.

Jesus just watching the highlights, like slip practice. Ok they bowled well, but fk me we were awful.

Hanging the bats out instead of batting out of the crease and getting far fwd.

I see Jimmy was denied a century by Buttle playing a rash shot.

Root Is still botching decisions, and Cook despite taking a beauty In the slips yesterday he is still dropping routine chances.

All in all pretty ordinary for England. Broad the only performer today.

Well played India, some great bowling.

So which was the worse decision:
1) Stokes in for Curran
2) Bowling first

I think it was just about 1. Just about. Both really poor decisions.

No. Clearly bowling first was a big mistake. Conditions have to be really, really, really st for a home side to win the toss and elect to bowl.

Or you know your Bowlers are 99/100 better than your bats. England don’t trust the top order to get on top of a match from the start. There is a good reason for that.

For whatever reason, we are too prone to headless collapses when wickets start to fall.
