Very soggy round yesterday with the society with some very low stableford scores. 21 players, almost half under 20 points.

I was playing badly, thinking it couldn't get any worse, when I came to the 15th 187 yard par 3 with 50 yard carry over water. Not only did the ball go in the water but the club head snapped off and also took a dive.

Is it worth trying to hunt down a TaylorMade Speedblade 5 iron? Or is a new set of irons in order? Or is it time to give up altogether? frown
Funnily enough last week i snapped my speedblade 6 iron in half trying to get out of a tree. Found one on ebay for £25 + £5 delivery cheaper than getting a shaft!

Is the club-head coming off a more common thing with Taylormade?
I tee'd off with my M2 5 Iron on Tuesday and it didn't feel right, examined it to see that the head was on the point of coming right off, then looked at my other clubs and found that the 7 iron was about 1cm displaced!
The others seem Ok but it is worrying, could do some real damage if they actually leave the shaft.

Armed with a dozen brand new yellow pro V1 balls which I won a few weeks back on a works golf day I headed to the course yesterday for a practice round and to check my distances now it's getting colder etc.

The course to my delight was empty so I could take my time.

3rd hole. Par 5. I hit two with the driver, 2 with the 3 wood and two with the hybrid. All straight. I head off from the tee box and down the fairway. I get to my hybrid shots, check the distance, pick up and head to the 3 wood and driver. I get to the 3 wood and driver but can only see two balls. The ground is a bit soggy so assume they've plugged somewhere. Couldn't find them so move on.

I drop 6 balls at the 200 marker and shoot for the green. 4 land on the green and two just off. I get to the green and again can only find 4 of the balls. I have a look but couldn't see the missing two at all. The strange thing is that I found the ones that didn't hit the green. The ones missing were the ones I watched pitch on the green. All a bit confusing.

The next hole, a 187yrd par 3. I tee off with all 8 balls. Some on the green, some off , 1 in the bunker....the usual.

Just as I pick up my bag to head to the green I look up and see five crows come sweeping down and take a fking ball each!

The bds had been the reason my balls were disappearing! To make matters worse by the time I got to the green they had taken another two leaving just the one ball left that was in the bunker.

11 brand new pro V1 balls gone in the space of half an hour!

Got talking to a fella in the car park and he said the crows are notorious for it in the late afternoon.

Back to the cheap slazenger balls for me!

Ouch, good job they were free balls, otherwise you would have been crying (I know I would have been)

I took up golf again this year after only occasionally playing it (say once a year) for a long time.

I could usually make decent contact with the ball but it seldom went in the right direction and my shots on and around the greens were frankly embarrassing.

Anyway after playing more regularly this year and after buying a new putter I managed to shoot an 82 at Haggs Castle in Glasgow yesterday.

That's about 10 shots better than normal. Not 3 putting on every green sure makes a big difference! Fired a few balls in to the undergrowth resulting in double bogeys but pulled three shots back with birdies.

My existing and very old Callaway X14s are starting to feel a bit chunky but I think I'll need to satisfy myself this was not a fluke before throwing money at new clubs though.

I'd like to be the person who finds their hoard !

The birds at ours don't take balls, but they regularly swoop down and nab sausage rolls and bacon sandwiches which players leave on their bags whilst playing a shot.

It's quite funny, until it happens to you laugh

First time out with the shotscope v2 at the weekend, great bit of kit and will be really interesting to see the data it builds up, couldn't believe how well it worked its kinda weird how the only thing you do is stand over the hole at the end and press how many putts you had

Just a few examples below

I really don't like College Pines.

Flat, and long in the main. Gets a bit more interesting towards the end.

Considering the time of year, there's some impressive yardages in that lot.

It's just ideal in this weather, built on sand so takes the rain and doesn't get boggy, playing bondhay tomorrow so see whats that like

Strange game yesterday. Tee'd off at the usual 05:45 under gloomy but very humid conditions.

First 3 holes: double bogey, double bogey, bogey. I then went on a run of 6 straight pars. Weather started to turn (rain) as we were having drinks at halfway, so we decided to cut to the 14th and I went 5 straight pars all the way back i.e. 11 straight pars.

Yes, I missed a lot of birdie opportunities and I need to work on my putting, but overall I was really happy. I just need to get the first 3 holes sorted out.

Still coming over the top a little, but the new grip seems to be helping the strike now https://youtu.be/9u-HRQOf_-Y

If it works for you, keep at it.

Certainly hit that one well!

Well, it will be a sad day for me on Sunday when I will play my last game of golf here in Ghana before my move back to South Africa at the end of the month.

It will cost me a lot in drinks and giving my caddie of 2.5 years a healthy "good-bye" tip, but it will be worth it.

The silver lining will be when I am back in SA it will be golf, golf and more golf.

Very sad, but all things come to an end.

I've been watching the Golf at Sun City on Sky Sports. 2,500.000 US$ first prize, I think that's the biggest of the season for the European Tour.
What is great about Sun City is that wayward shots, and there have been plenty of them, are punished. If these guys go 20 yards wide of the fairway, they are in the bush. The leaderboard is very tight but ever changing!

Its on the list of courses for me to go and play when I am back in SA, along with the Wild Coast Casino course (which I have played twice, but before it was officially opened many moons ago).

TF played extremely well. To shoot a 65 on the final day was outstanding.

3 eagles in the final round, I guess he figured he had nothing to lose and went s**t or bust. It was going to be a 65 or a 75!
It looks like a superb course, the tees they were playing from yesterday were pushed back a long way and the pins were tucked away. Not easy. Enjoy it.
Good to see Tommy winning again, he comes across as a genuine nice guy.

No substitute for lessons, it seems. Been struggling to hit 30pts off 18 for a few months, was getting a bit low about it. Had a lesson last week, a 9-hole walkaround with the pro. Told me what I was doing wrong - I had no real idea but what he was saying made sense. Fix feels weird but had an immediate improvement and 37pts (with three blobs) in the first post-lesson round.

Played yesterday, in summary there were some good signs, 2 birdies but.....

My driver wasn't too great - need to work on that
The course was horrendous, being the flood plain for Lewisham and clay-based it was a bog, with one of the courses closed the one that remains open was heavily traffic'ed and the greens/everywhere was an un-even, squelchy mess
Poor excuse i know, but, I managed about 6 3-putt's....not great!

Off to play at the RAC with a friend next weekend which'll hopefully be a lot better!!!
