Happy New Year fellow golfers!

A pretty good 2019 chopped 3 shots from my handicap, down to 11.1. Won 5 comps this year (3 singles and 2 foursomes).

Hoping that 2020 can get another cut of 1.7 to see me play off the hallowed ground that is single figures..... fingers crossed!

May also invest in some new clubs, existing set up is 6 years old now and I could probably do with being re-fit (was 17 handicap when I bought these!).

Also hoping to tick a few more courses off of the English Top 100 list, I've currently played 15 of them.

Off to Portugal in March to play at Monte Rei, and also marshalling at the Open at Royal St Georges. Bring it on!

Happy golfing!

Now been a year since I first played, and its been a lot harder than I imagined to learn how to play.

Handicap is 28 , 10 shots higher than I was expecting to be by now, naivety I now know.

Just when I am ready to scrap the clubs, it offers you a few holes where you think you have cracked it.

Finally accepted that driving 300 yards isn't where its at smile . Did mange 318 in the autumn though, and straight!

I like playing over at Wargrave, best so far is 93, I have confidence there, but at Newbury, I have only managed to dip under a 100 twice, but normally its circa 106.

Played in a few Christmas texas scramble events with a couple of mates , and we have managed to go round in par, was 2 under last time until we double bogied a par 3 !
Lost out on winning a turkey each by 0.1 once the handicaps were applied biggrin

Going to give it until April before deciding whether or not to drop back to cricket, or continue putting the hours into golf with the hope of improving.

This game is definitely a drug !

Glad you’re enjoying your golf, it certainly is addictive. The more you play, the better you become and the more you realise there is to learn!

I started enjoying my golf a lot more when I realised it’s just about playing with your mates, and to cut myself a bit of slack! I thoroughly recommend the YouTube Chanel ‘golf vlogs UK’ (although is appreciate this is subjective), I love the vids and have picked up lots of tips from them!

Worth checking out Sandford Springs, Caversham Heath, Goring and Streatly, or even Bishopswood (9 hole) if you fancy a change of scenery and course within 30 mins of Newbury.

Had a first hit on Friday with my ebay Cobra SL irons and really enjoyed them.

Found it much easier to go between various clubs and the longer PW / 9 etc didn't bother me. Hitting the 5 iron was much easier and miss hits where much reduced.

Need lots more practice but so far so good. Going to keep an eye out for a SL hybrid or utility iron.

Went for a lesson today to tweak the swing, currently playing off 12 and hoping to break 80 a couple of times this year...

Great setup for this one

3 wood, not bad for a couple of swing changes

Really looking forward to my golf in 2020.
Got hooked at the end of 2019 and in December got my first handicap of 25.
Hoping to play a fair amount this year and see how many shots I can get knocked off!

First time at Huddersfield today, so close to a very good round

46 out, that's with losing a perfectly good drive on the 9th which just seem to dissappear

39 In, that's with a 7 on the last 👀

Numerous putts lipped out or great line just short, striking is defenitly coming along now though, but overall really happy with the game currently especially in these conditions.

270 yard 3w and 232yard 5 iron in these temps and conditions is showing that the tweaks to the swing is working

A 270 yard 3 wood is very decent - but a 232 yard 5 iron?! Are you a pro?! Or do you have jacked up irons?! That's some distance.....

To be fair it probably rolled 10 yards.

Distance doesn't make you a pro but control would lol, that's my downfall I have plenty of distance but it's controlling the ball, part of the above lesson was to start swinging at a much easier % and not all out at each shot which is usually what I've done for years.

The issue I had / have is when I'm taking an extra club to try and swing much more controlled at it I wouldnt turn through it so it always went to st

Here's one of my 3 Woods ( changed clubs since this one). - https://youtu.be/9u-HRQOf_-Y

This was pre lesson and trying to get rid of coming over the top despite this one being a v good strike

Rory hits 5i 210. Tiger a little less.

Sure you haven't got super strong lofts????

Picked up a Cobra one length set before Christmas and been playing with them for the last few months but struggled to hit them. I think it’s to do with the swing weights in the 5 iron.

Going to go back to my Mizuno JPX forged clubs and see how they go. I always seemed to hit those ok, and as I have a chunk of lessons pre-paid I need to choose the clubs I want to play long term.

Just standard lofts on the p790s

There's also long drive players hitting 7 irons 230 yards but distance doesn't make you a golfer unfortunately.

After a few more tweaks to the swing and a couple of hundred balls I seem to have removed the fade and the ball flight is coming along

OK, so the P790's do have strong lofts.

For example, Your 5 iron is actually my 4 iron (23.5 degrees). My 7 iron has 33 degrees of loft, yours has 30.

They are a club longer than traditional lofted irons, which goes some way to your 5 iron distance. Still a big hit, though!!

Seriously considering the Mizuno MP20 MMC for my next set of irons - maybe with the 5 and 4 iron in the HMB.

Look lovely!
