No way I'm filming myself, as much as Yorky has set the bar very high. I look like drunk giraffe compared to him.

I played Horsley, Monday evening - wasn't quite up to your scratch - went round in 98.

It's a lovely course. The greens are fantastic.

You must be pretty local to me?

If you are - try Chevin next it's lovely also.

That's decent round there, it's not easy but agreed greens are lovely.

I'm Sheffield but we decided to travel got it cheap online at 14quid which is silly value for the standard, we've booked to go back next Friday.

Will have a look at chevin thanks always up for new courses.

It's been a good few weeks for golf. The really dry and windy weather has been a challenge on our course, with tight firm fairways. But I've enjoyed changing my game to suit and as a result scored well, it's been really interesting.

I had a playing lesson with our club pro last week. Never did that before. Good to know that generally my thinking is sound, but invaluable help in hitting more greens from uphill/downhill lies, as well as hitting different trajectories and shapes off the tee. Good times!

Don’t know why I bother playing medals...ruin myself mentally and fk up, without fail...

My handicap is 9, I’ve been shooting about that, consistently for the last 2 months...today I shoot a +31, for a round 100

I played a round at Northop Hall this afternoon. A bit breezy but a lovely day, the course played well, though the rough was sometimes a little too cruel!

I managed to shoot 107 which is a new record for me and marks an improvement.

Got to play with the new Ping G410 3 and 5 woods I bought recently too, I’ve never had woods before and can’t hit a driver for toffee. They really do seem to be very forgiving and give a good distance too.

Just pulled the trigger on a Titleist u510 18’ driving iron. Can’t wait for it to arrive. Hopefully will give me a safer, more consistent option off the tee!

Nice!

Was looking at the U500 - the Mrs has offered me a new driver for my birthday next month, may have to add the fairway woods/utility too

I was torn between the 500 and 510. Opted for the 510 as it’s a little more forgiving for a hacker like me!

I recently added a driving iron too. I had space for it as I only carry 2 extra wedges after my PW.

I picked up a mizuno MP18 fli hi 2 iron from golf bidder for just over £100. It’s definitely given me more options from the tee and on long approach shots. Especially on windy days. It’s really not hard to hit either, despite only having 16.5 degrees of loft. It carries about the same as my 3 hybrid at around 200 yards but will roll out much further on summer fairways.

I tried out the U500 3 iron earlier int he season. Really easy to hit, and it goes like a rocket when you do, only reason I didn't pick it up was it was too close to my 818 H2 19 Degree hybrid which was a bit nicer off the turf.

Well worth a try if you're after a utility iron though. I like the Callaway UT also, but my Scottish tightness decided a second hand Nike 4 iron worked even better smile

My handicap high (ie low) point of 13 seems like a distant memory now. I'm supposedly on 18 these days but can't remember when I last shot that. Neck, shoulder and back are all buggered on the right side, think I've got a trapped nerve somewhere, desperate to get some acupuncture but will have to exit Wales to have any chance of that.

Well I'm two lessons into my starting out on the golf. And it's about the most frustrating game I've ever tried playing. When you get one thing working the other goes to bits. I was working with the pro on my irons. And he slowed my swing right down. Pointed out I was using mainly my arms and got me using me shoulders and hips. And I got some traction with that. Then I couldn't hit the fairway woods... Then I get the fairway woods going okay but the irons are not working again. Let's not even think or talk about chipping and pitching... I'm actually looking at getting a chipper as it's soul-destroying being 20 yards away on a par 5 after two good shots and then scoring an 8 because you bladed the chip over the green into a bunker, then take 2 or 3 to get out. Then 2 or 3 put. The pro says to not buy anymore clubs but just practise and get confident... Easy for him to say when he can hit all his clubs properly.

Out of interest how far is everyone else hitting their clubs? When it's working my 7 iron is consistently going about 150 yards. But I met a lad on the range who's 7 iron goes 165... Now I know it doesn't matter as I could just use a 5 iron. But he was telling me more modern clubs go much further because they have taken the loft down, and if you want to put any sort of decent score up you need some of these new clubs. My 7 iron has 34 degrees of loft according to google and he said that is far too much. I will discuss this with the pro but I wanted to get a feel for what everyone else is doing. I can't be making this game any harder for myself.
