Well fellow golfers, another year has passed.
Looking back at the beginning of the 2020 thread my goal was to get to single figures, which I achieved late in the year and my handicap index is currently 8.2.
Goal for this year? Stay a single figure golfer! Which judging by the last couple of games could be harder than I thought....

I started last year in june and am very much in the all the gear no idea camp.
Will be continuing to have lessons with my local pro and get as many games in as possible now I am a member of my local club.
Still haven’t made a birdie putt so would be nice to make one of those (only managed a chip in).

I have been able to play a fair bit over the festive period (summer here in south Africa). However, we have had a ton of rain which has made it hard to play when I wanted too. Some ups and downs but my handicap has remained around the 8-9.
I decided the other day to go and try out some new irons. I have had my Mizuno JPX900's for close to 3 years and felt as if I needed something a little different. I wanted to stick with Mizuno as I have played with them for many years, so I tried the MP20's and the JPX921 Tour. I ended up today pulling the plug and buying the JPX921 Tour. Had them fitted with the only adjustment being the tow angle (2 deg), They felt good at the golf shop and even better when I went to the range directly after buying them to test them all out.
A little lighter than my 900's and a little longer but they feel really, really good when you hit them. Even off-centre hits feel good. Will not be able to take them on the course until Monday (weather permitting) but I can't wait.

My goal this year is to break 76 gross at my home course (when I'm allowed to play again that is - damn this 'rona).
Shot 76 (+7) three times this year and - like every round - I can easily see where I could have saved a couple
Also to get more consistency with my "problem child" 3 wood when playing off the deck.

Played 9 today, the pro kindly lent me a Ping i210 7 iron and I must say I love it! Hit 2 good shots with it, so leaning towards a set of these. Still like the Mavrik Pro but most testers indicate less flight with the 5 iron and 4 iron so that's putting me off. Hopefully get some more golf this week but fearing the worst after tonight's briefing.
Broke 50 for 9 holes for the first time ever on the weekend. I only play 9 holes due to time constraints and always had one or two holes that I would have a mare on.
This weekend I managed to make it round with no major issues and scored 49
I even feel confident hitting a driver off the tee now as well.

i'm retreating to the garage to re-grip my irons, doing some carpet putting and dream of a trip to turnberry that's (hopefully) happening at the end of april - crossing everything!!!
I finally managed to get out on to the golf course to hit my new irons in anger yesterday.
Not sure if it was the irons or the whole game, but shot a gross 74 (Par 70). New irons felt really good but I was off with my distance control (to be expected). However, my short game and putting were on form.
The JPX921 Tour look ever so small and thin behind the ball compared to my old JPX900 but boy do they look good and certainly get the ball moving when you hit them.
Need to find a time when the course is quiet so I can get out and hit a number of shots from various distances with the clubs to gauge true yardages.

Flightscope seems good, although only had limited use of it due to rain/snow we have had in Leeds.how's the flightscope?

How does everyone feel about losing, potentially, up to 6 months subs due to the lockdowns? Ours runs April to March hence the expected 6 months or thereabouts.
No-one's fault and clubs need to survive and up to now I've not been bothered about it but with this lockdown I'm a bit peeved we've heard nothing from our club. Looking on the internet it seems some clubs are offering up to 3 months extensions before renewals and other concessions.

Not happy, looking at 5months gone, we will have £20 put on our bar account. Yippee, whilst the club sit on £500k as they pay no rent for the golf course.
Just got to live with it and support ‘our members club’ luckily I am not in a position where I need to recoup the loss.
Sport of the rich so they expect fees to be paid. Couldn’t even leave as I would of had to pay joining fee again, to go social would have cost me more and would have to wait another year to rejoin.
I just don’t like the way they go about it.

Ours have offered people the option of a refund or they keeping it.
Being fair I offered mine the chance to extend my membership but they wouldn’t as it finds April-April. As a compromise they’ve put it on my card - I’m looking at a set of irons/woods/hybrid/wedges when we’re out of this so the saved fees on top of a comp winning will make a £600 dent in that bill.
