Bowling stats tell all. When some, rather most, of the bowlers are giving away 14 runs per over average then either the batsmen are world leading or the bowlers are ####

The England innings flattered and the main and regular batsmen did poorly.

It was always a big ask, but I don't mind losing when we score over 200 runs. I've not seen the game but it does sound like we had a decent whack, even if we let them score more runs than we should have done.
We were well beaten (though I'm sure some in the hallway of power will try to note we dominated smile). I was listening to some commentary and the bowling seems to have been....sub-optimal.

English cricket really is looking in a shoddy state.

No Wood, Archer, Buttler, Bairstow, Malan who would generally be in the starting XI and no Stokes (doesn't get into my best XI anyway), the Currans, Woakes, Jordan, Mills who would all be in the discussion for best XI, and a focus on player development for this series. The white ball team is in fine shape, it's just red ball in the gutter.

Well fair play to Moeen here, when he gets it right he is really class.

50 off 23 balls, 4 consecutive 6’s. Fabulous batting.

Could have been 200 if the umpires had seen fit to give some of the wides that were bowled biggrin

Looks a good deck. Hopefully Salt comes up the order today. Let him open with Roy and see how he goes.

You'd back the first choice XI to chase near enough anything here, hoping the (anticipated) scoreboard pressure doesn't get to the inexperienced lads.

Let’s see if Vince can do a star turn. So far he has strictly been the warm up act.

Always looks great until he gets to the nervous thirties

It’s a start…

Sadly Coaches and Captains are easy to sack. Developing the game and growing talent takes longer.

Silverwood gone too.

Next matches not far away, I see Strauss is back…

Glad Giles has gone….listened to him being interviewed on TMS, came across as being very political and didn’t want to own the problem. He made Silverwood the sole supremo of managemenf and selection of Test, ODI and T20 cricket. How is one man supposed to mange those three teams and still spend enough time on monitoring and selecting players ?!?! Obv Silverwood could delegate watching players in County Champ but an impossible job.

Strauss has got a busy few weeks ! Saw Alec Stewart mentioned as possibly taking charge for the Windies test series.

I don't know what was wrong with the way it was before with selectors. Seemed to be doing ok until Giles decided it wasn't how he wanted to proceed.

The only silver lining here is that next up are the WI who are (sadly) almost the worst test team around at the moment. If we can't beat them there is no hope.

They had Ed Smith as head selector who apparently was good at spotting talent, but couldn't manager relationships with the players.
