Can anyone recommend a good sturdy flight bag please?
I’m assuming baggage handlers still chuck golf club bags around like normal luggage….

Thanks.
more than welcolme to borrow mine if Surrey based...

Very kind offer, thanks.
Nowhere near Surrey though!

Have been able to borrow one as it it happens - for my lad who’s playing a tournament in Abu Dhabi in a few weeks.
Unfortunately I’ve got to be his chaperone…

What would be the result of using more upright/shorter irons? Six footer currently using standard black dot Ping 425s.

Advice I'd give at this point is that if you are intent on picking up an electric trolley in a 1 Series Coupé, it will go in the back seat with less than an inch to spare. However getting it out again is a little bit more challenging....
Very nice. My PowaKaddy CT6 just turned over 100 miles yesterday. Let us know how you get on with it..

Nice! I got the same a few months back.

I would recommend getting the bag, screen cover and accessory set for it if you haven’t already.

I wanted to pick those up at the same time but American Golf were out of stock sadly. I did come away with a drinks holder, and can use the umbrella holder from my Cube - also got the Hydroflex carry bag so can use the Easilock system at the bottom.

When my credit card has recovered I shall go an get more stuff smile

Has anyone ordered / tried DTC clubs from brands like Sub70, Caley Golf or Takomo?

Seen some Caley clubs local to me 10 clubs in total for about £200. Wonder if they might be worth a punt at that price?

I bought a Sub70 putter for my lad, single block CNC milled, for £160. It's absolutely gorgeous, would definitely recommend.

I like but don't love their irons, dangerously close in price to stuff like JPX Hot Metal.

Tommy Armour III and a few other pros use Sub70 gear, I like the branding a lot.

Edit to add: Caley for £200 is great for an absolute beginner?

Would depend a lot on what you're trying to achieve, you're going to have to deliver on a steeper plane if you go short and upright. I'm 6" and play 1/4 long, 1deg upright, being fit is important imo.

Whats interesting is when you look at the clubs they just seem to be a standard off the shelf design made by someone in the far east and they just brand them.

Unsure if that means they are good quality or cheap and cheerful?

There could be no issues. Is the toe or heel side of your divots deeper?

Just treat myself to a Scotty Cameron Newport 2 putter.

When I started playing I bought a blade type putter but didn't like it so swapped it for a Taylormade SpiderX mallet type, however had been messing around with a friends Scotty Cameron at the office recently on a putting mat and all seemed good, so made the purchase.

Lovely thing, although haven't used it on course yet as only arrived last week and am currently not playing due to physio on my knee which I need to sort before a golfing holiday to Portugal in 3 weeks.

Going to a more upright club will typically promote more of a draw, and shorter means you'll generate slightly less swing speed so will lose a little distance.

I'm 6 foot 1 and play 0.5 inch long but standard lie. According to my fitter I should really be playing them 1 Degree upright for a "proper" fit, however my natural shape is a draw so he recommended keeping them standard to counteract that.

Last time I played Pings I was using Black Dot as well, however as that was a set of Eye 2 BeCus in 1996 things may have changed slightly smile

My goto recommendation is to buy second hand ping, with the relevant dot for your size.

https://www.thegolfshoponline.co.uk/blog/ping-colo...

This is an excellent way of getting fit without the price, and for a beginner, good value to be had on ebay. Ping are cast, and wear well.

This. Any Ping G series irons will be perfect for a beginner. Get a set, that is a few years old and when you come to sell them you will probably get back the same as what you paid.

That Scotty is lovely!

Luckily dodged the rain today!

As some of you have read on here, I've been having serious issues with my putting which was stopping me getting any lower....
Well, I think I've fixed it. After getting obsessed with being left eye dominant I did some research and watched a few videos to try and understand the solution. Couple of videos suggested using a line on the ball (which isn't rocket science to be fair!).

I had tried it before but couldn't trust the alignment as it always looked 'off' when stood over it. Spent about an hour on the practise green today and went through the process, lined up, checking the alignment, checking the line on the ball again and then just trusting the line on the ball and line on the putter were correct and my eyes aren't...

Did it on every putt during the round later on, 29 putts (about 5 under my recent average), holed some lovely ones for birdie and par and even left about 4 in the jaws (forgetting to hit it when falling in love with the line hehe)

Even the putts that missed had a chance which is a huge step on when I was previously miles out.
Shot 74 (+2)

Well chuffed.
After the above statement it was guaranteed that my next round wouldn't be as good as the first - I was correct! Putted poorly on Thursday, not helped by quick greens, 25mph winds and a little rain..

Not to be put off, practised again on Friday before 9 holes and took some advice from 2 playing partners, one off 0.5 and the other scratch. Opened the stance up (which felt strange), shoulders square, single line on the ball (instead of the Callaway triple track) and putted much better again.
Only played 9, but holed 2 x putts from 10ft, no 3 putts and 2 that caught the edge from circa 20ft.

Finished the round off with a lovely 10ft putt for par.

My old 'square' stance was actually closed to the line, so I either followed that alignment and missed right, or pulled it across my line resulting in inconsistencies for the line and strike. New set up is more Billy Horschel.

Ray, I bought this and it really helps with alignment for at home practice, exposed a pull I kind of knew I had.

Cheap and effective.

Thanks, might look into that! Just hope the putting demons are now gone. At my home course, the front 9 is especially tricky on the greens so you need a decent putting standard to score well..
