Can anyone recommend a good sturdy flight bag please?
I’m assuming baggage handlers still chuck golf club bags around like normal luggage….

Thanks.

Wow, Nike slingshots! Do you mind me asking what year they are? My friend had some.

I have 2006 Wilson Pi5 irons, I'm likely to change this year, but I don't think I could honestly justify the change other than that I want some new shiny irons, and perhaps that my 5 iron is shorter than I'd like.

The Scotty above is so so nice, hope it brings you joy Danny smile
No idea, I bought them second hand off my mates son who played off 7 with them. I'd guess 2010 ish?

At the range today I used a graphite mavrik and it was identical to the old Nike 7i. I cannot find a better iron.

Therefore bought myself a new putter instead!!

Busy weekend this week so couldn't make it out onto the course

Spent some time on the range working on getting my hands in front of the ball at impact. From what I could see from the scuff mat I was hitting the floor well before the ball, so I am thinning it on the way back up in my swing

Worked on my set up and some of the drills offered up on here and can honestly say that my connection and strike were significantly better by the end of the session. Getting some decent height and distance

Had my next lesson in Saturday where we started looking at something I hadn't really considered before - the "bottom point" of my swing. Nothing to do with what my posterior is doing, but more at what point eh club reaches its lowest point.

I have been hitting it much straighter recently but contact with my irons hasn't really been there, either catching it slightly fat or really thin, and from looking at my swing on GC Quad, he picked up that I was bottoming out a couple of mm before the ball, and we should work to move that to around a mm after the ball - so ball, then turf with compression.

Believe it or not he identified I was catching it slightly fat not due to anything I was doing on the way through, but the start of my backswing. I still tend to take the club a little inside which results in a minor OTT move and inconsistent contact. He showed me a drill when I exaggerate taking the club outside on the way back to half way, stop, check, then complete the swing.

Did that a few times and the results were remarkable. From 2mm before to 1mm after, with much better consistency and a lovely feel on the way through.

Shows you how silly this game is when 3mm can make such a huge difference hehe

Went for 9 holes yesterday and was hitting it MUCH better. Didn't score great (although still 5 over level with my handicap for 9 holes) as my short game wasn't where it usually is, but my long game was excellent - decent contact on everything and a lovely little baby draw off the tee.

Need to do some more work on my takeaway and short game, but getting good vibes for this season I will admit.

Had a comp on Saturday and managed 33 points on a muddy course in constant heavy drizzle which I was happy with.

I found the main cause of my inconsistent strike seems to be my shoulders were quite open resulting in an ugly pull hook. I made a conscious effort to make sure my shoulders were in line with my feet and hips and my strike was so much better. I only had one penalty shot on the 17th due to a big pull into a ditch which is an improvement but still need to work on reducing the number of doubles I get. I played with a 7 handicapper and generally there wasn't much difference between us and I seemed to be a couple of clubs longer than him but with 5 doubles I'm always fighting myself which I hope the alignment issue will reduce. He was just boringly consistent which I'm hoping to get to the same level this year. When the weather picks up it'll be better as it was very muddy even in the light rough and there was a couple of mists due to feet slipping.

Sounds like really promising data, nothing quite feels like a proper iron shot struck well!

I'm still trying to work out what ball to use for this season. As mentioned in a previous post, I have "fixed" my alignment issues and i'm learing to trust the alignment aid on the ball for where to start the roll. The Callaway triple track balls are excellent for this and dead simple to use.
Currently using the Chrome Soft X LS but thinking about swapping into the standard X for a little more spin action. Really impressed with the X LS though, think it's a little longer than a ProV (prob similar to the AVX) but might need a little more control coming into the harder greens..

It's one of my favourite feelings in golf is to hit a crisp iron shot, especially with the longer irons, so anything that helps is most welcome smile Had a quick session at the range tonight - wasn't in the right frame of mind at all, rubbish day at work, rocked up to American Golf 5 mins before it shut to get my trolley only to realise I could barely get the box in the car etc etc - however went out and picked up where I left off after the lesson, so promising.

On the ball side of things, I have experimented with the lower spin efforts - I'm a Titleist guy so AVX and the Left Dash - and I've always found them wanting around the greens. The Left Dash was a bit better, but despite decent contact I can never get an AVX to behave around the greens like what I'm used to. I also found with the AVX I'd get the odd "flier", so a shot that comes out with little to no spin but travels an extra 15 yards or so.

I'm probably going to start the season with my trusty Tour Speed and see how things go. If I'm not losing 4 or 5 a round then I'll get my old stash of Nike RZNs out and worry about finding a new ball next season hehe

Range sessions always need more concentration than what you imagine, especially if you're working on something..

Interesting on the balls, I have a couple of Chrome Soft X LS remaining and might order a dozen of the standard X model. I'm sure most of the differences are mental, but I like having confidence in the ball and knowing what it should be doing.

No point having a lasered distance to a flag and then not knowing of the ball will go + or - 5 yards of your intended yardage.

Getting into minute details here... hehe

Bagged a spot in this year's Cookie Jar Golf Spring Meeting, looking forward to that. Alwoodley and Moortown in May.

Yep, it's going to come thick and fast this year. Confirmed so far:

Moortown
Alwoodley
Little Aston
Littlestone
Ashdown Forest
Sunningdale
St George's
Piltdown
Knole Park
Brancaster
Hunstanton

Hopefully pick off a couple more along the way, possibly Prince's at some point too.

Roll on summer!

Sun Mountain Club Glider.

A bit pricey but so effortless to cart around. Sturdy construction and really good padding around the heads.

Picked my new purchase up the other night, and I've finally got round to managing to get it out of the car....

Advice I'd give at this point is that if you are intent on picking up an electric trolley in a 1 Series Coupé, it will go in the back seat with less than an inch to spare. However getting it out again is a little bit more challenging....
