This looks great for putting practice, albeit not cheap .....

Thought about this in lock down as it was coming out at the time.https://www.golfswingsystems.co.uk/product/exputt-...
It does look good but I just think It would gather dust once summer comes and the practice green is in better nick on my course.

Playing for a few years, but off 25 HCP so defo still a beginner.
My goto recommendation is to buy second hand ping, with the relevant dot for your size.https://www.thegolfshoponline.co.uk/blog/ping-colo...
This is an excellent way of getting fit without the price, and for a beginner, good value to be had on ebay. Ping are cast, and wear well.

Currently play Cobra F9s but I’m like a magpie and like shiny things.
The Cobras will be a much better club than anything from Caley. We all like shiny things, Golf facilitates more than most sports/pastimes Hybrids are a lot of bang for your buck, get as many in the bag as you can, ebay for decent 2nd hand bargains.
Was thoroughly surprised this morning that despite all the rain our place was open, so went to play in the morning swindle. Considering I didn't hole a putt all day - that isn't hyperbole either, had 4 birdie putts of less than 10 feet, burned the edge 4 times - quite happy with the result.
As it was Stableford the guy marking my card didn't bother with adding up Gross scores, but was 37 out, 41 back for a 78.

Good work! I surprised myself yesterday winning my first comp of the year! With…. 27 points! Wind was extreme - I hit driver and 9 iron into the opening par 5, then driver, 5 wood, 9 iron into a par 4 in the other direction! As it was Stableford the guy marking my card didn't bother with adding up Gross scores, but was 37 out, 41 back for a 78.
I noticed that the WHS had given a PCC adjustment of +3, don’t see that very often. But it was 40mph winds!
So after 2 comps I’m leading the OoM and Eclectic - I think the weekly early season range sessions are paying off.

Played with the society at a bit of a Mickey Mouse course (the Oaks in Carshalton) which was playing short and shot 36 points with 2 OOB balls...
Placed lower-mid pack....
Day was won by a new guy playing off 22....who was 1 under gross through the first 10 holes. Although he fell away from there he still finished +7...or 51 points...
Last day of paternity leave tomorrow so have arranged a scratch match with an ex captain for the knock out back at my club. Although we're about the same handicap it should be a good game...assuming I get through the next game is against a guy playing of +2...a fools errand I fear

51 points would be a 6 shot cut under our society rules, plus new joiners aren't eligible to win any trophies until their third match. Placed lower-mid pack....

I don't mind The Oaks as I started off playing the 9 hole there and the 18 hole course seemed like something for the pros. It's still a challenge at my level of play, though one of the easiest ones in the area. I play for fun, not punishment.

Played a quick 9 on Friday at short notice.
Once again, mostly good off the tee. Better with the irons after doing some work on them at the range. Struggled a bit with the short game
All 5s, 6s and a couple of 7s
Stood on the last and absolutely creamed the driver. 2 yards short of the green (it's a long, uphill par 3 but my distances are poor). Chipped to 6 foot and drained it to finish with a 3, and a 51 (playing of 28.7 so not to far off)
As for the post above. Shooting one under gross for 9 when playing off 22 is proper bandit country!

Thank you sir! Must admit 27 points in 40 mph winds is properly good going and something I still struggle with due to hitting a high and quite spinny ball. I'm trying to reduce that with coach at the moment, but it's a slower process. I hit a drive into the wind on 17 yesterday and it span back 3 feet....I noticed that the WHS had given a PCC adjustment of +3, don’t see that very often. But it was 40mph winds!

Always amuses me seeing how differently Links golf can play depending upon wind direction however. When I was at St Andrews the 17th was a particular eye opener - downwind it was Driver, 7 iron. Into the wind it was Driver, Driver, then a 7 iron

The 10th was playing short due to how wet the course was, so the tees had been moved up 100 yards. Still he hit a 5 iron onto the front fringe, then chipped in for "eagle". I hit a 4 iron into the left side bunker pin high, splashed out but missed the putt by an inch....He's one of the guys I've got a wager on with to see who has the lowest HCP at the end of the season, and is currently off 4.5 (me 8.4), so was good to evaluate where I was on the way round. Only big difference I'd say was putting, where he drained a few but mine were burning edges. More to work on but pleased with progress so far.
Also - anyone getting over 50 points in Stableford should be automatically docked 10 shots at the next review just for being silly.
Very nice.
It's that point of the year when I send my irons in for a "mini MOT". They're forged and I tend to go to the range at least once a week, so going to get the lofts and lies checked to make sure they're still in spec after being bounced off mats got a year.
However I also need new grips, and I am a little unsure over what the hell to go for. My grips are a bit of a mish mash depending on what the club is used for, but my irons currently have Tour Velvet Aligns with two wraps of tape underneath. I'm happy enough with them but have been wondering:
As my hands are a bit active through contact is it worth adding another layer of tape or two? I'd like to quieten then down, but not silence then completely like what happens if I try midsize.
The head pro thinks they have had some Tour Velvet Full Cord delivered - and if not they definitely have the Lambkin Full Cord in - is it worth moving to those? I have them on my wedges and am a fan, but would that translate further up the bag? If I get the Tour Velvet ones they'll be installed logo down....because reasons

Golf Pride MCC midsize align
2 layers of tape (1+1)
Larger than standard and I only use a medium glove but they feel brilliant, pretty sure they held to keep the hands quieter.
Can't stand a normal size grip now
I've always liked the golf pride new decade multi-compounds. I got measured for 2/3 wraps but got midsize to keep everything quieter.
Separate news had my scratch knockout match today and was done in under 2 hours...
Somehow managed to play well, was +1 through 10, 8 up and as the 10th is near the clubhouse and we'd just caught a 4-ball the game was conceded. Only issue is my next game is new against a guy off +2....if I play like I did today I may just have a chance...
