Golf in SA does look stunning - never been on my list of places to visit but might have to change that.
Just back from the Belfry and good news is it went better than last week. Temp gauge in the car was a whipping 8 degrees higher, and when we got there it looked far more playable.

Was in decent nick for the time of year, bit muddy on places and looked like they'd had recent issues with the greens, bit it played well and the greens ran pretty true.
No idea on score as we played a 2v2 Scramble, but that went well as me and me mate won 4 and 3. Generally hit the ball well but was leaving the face a touch open on the way through, so was hitting a lot of 10 yard cuts.
Winter League at Stone tomorrow, let see how we get on.

Be interested to hear how you get on with it. I finally bought a hybrid last month (Sim 2) and after using it I wish I bought one sooner! So versatile and I find it so much easier to hit then the 3/utility iron I had.
In other news after getting to a point where I'm playing the best golf I ever have, I recently completely lost the ability to hit anything other than a shank... 3 range sessions in a row, probably 90% of the shots I hit were off the hosel. I've been trying all sorts to prevent it and nothing seemed to work!!
Finally yesterday things got a bit better, with all my efforts being to swing more in to out (I've always had a slightly out to in swing but never resulted in hitting it off the hosel). I think I'd also been putting too much weight onto my toes, as moving it back slightly seemed to help get my hips out the way.
Isn't golf fun
Easiest way to cure a shank…put your hat on backwards & put your keys / spare change in the opposite pocket In other news after getting to a point where I'm playing the best golf I ever have, I recently completely lost the ability to hit anything other than a shank... 3 range sessions in a row, probably 90% of the shots I hit were off the hosel. I'm really tempted to book a round at the Belfry as they seem to have some great offers on at the moment. IIRC it is £160 for 2 rounds and night in the hotel.Just back from the Belfry and good news is it went better than last week. Obviously be a little cautious which two courses are included..... one should be the Brabazon......There are others for less but I’m not sure of the dates.
I’ll need to get practicing as I’ve just bought an AI Smoke HL 4 hybrid as well.
The state of this:

If they're caught you'd like to hope that the punishment will also involve quad bikes.

They just say to avoid the Derby, which isn't great.

The guys who sort out the free rounds for me via corporate membership have played all 3 courses there a few times as you can imagine. I've only played the Brabazon, however I'm told the PGA is as good if not better in summer when the rough has been grown out.

I wasn't blown away by the PGA. There were some nice holes but a lot felt very straight up and down. I think nicer weather and not so wet underfoot would probably bring it out a bitThey just say to avoid the Derby, which isn't great.
Driver fitting at Titleist national centre in St Ives today.
Really good experience, spent nearly 1.5 hours going through all options on GT2 and GT3.
Settled on a GT3, 4g weight (standard is 8g), weight in the heel and a 6.0 Denali Red shaft.
Much better spin numbers and dispersion compared to my Callaway Rogue and it counteracts my tendency for a high/right miss.
Just shows that custom fitting really does work, especially with how you can tweak and change a club head with weights and settings..

Interesting…did you warm up with your Rogue & go back and forth during testing? Id always worry I start swinging well and then the new club goes in your hand and the benefits are inflated by your own improvement. What were the dispersion / carry distance improvements? I really should spend £600 on short game lessons instead of a driver….HOWEVER, NEW & SHINY

Clubs have got to take their security more seriously. Cameras especially. I’d guess these idiots are unlikely to get away with it

Dispersion was marginally better (but was already ok to be fair) but I dropped the spin down from 3,500/4,000 to 2,500 which really improved the flight

Ordered through my Pro this afternoon. Should really go and hit the competitors, but I'm really happy with the end result at Titleist and it sorted out my issues nicely.Really good experience, spent nearly 1.5 hours going through all options on GT2 and GT3.

Ping are always slow for me and short, the new Callaway is grim and I wouldn't entertain a TM anyway..

That's a seriously good improvement in spin, sounds like the right driver for you!

The fitter described it as looking for a 'rainbow' flight. Interestingly, it's a low spin head with a higher spin shaft (but lofted down, 4g lighter weight and 2° upright) simples

I’m not sure cameras will catch them, Beau Desert in Staffordshire had an on going problem some years ago and ended up building a ditch around the perimeter of the course. Setting up stingers appeals to me. Clubs have got to take their security more seriously. Cameras especially. I’d guess these idiots are unlikely to get away with it

Hitting into wind in the bay but working with Trackman to normalise the data. I genuinely don't think a multi-brand club fitter would've got to the final result that Titleist did. Too many head and shaft options..
I’ve had a couple of fittings there, luckily hitting straight into the wind. You have to trust the Trackman numbers. For me though, it was useful to see the real ball flight as wind into on the range is the prevailing wind. Ive had a couple of lessons with a strong sidewind. Not great when fighting a hook and the wind is blowing over 20mph right to left. We had to close the bay door

Back to my home club and the 4-club competition (1 has to be a putter) tomorrow.
Last year I went; Driver, 3i hybrid, 50*
This year the two at the top are likely staying (to give a chance on the 3 longer par-3's and 4 of the longer par-4's) but think I may have to look at the bottom as doubt I'll be able to get it to the par-3's I need to (but going up leaves me exposed for chipping etc)
One to think about overnight!
