I liked Brysons idea. Tee it forward. I’ve always thought if your two best shots can’t get home on a par 4 you are on the wrong tee.
He says it’s better to get used to scoring in the 70s and move back gradually as you get better/longer.. for a young kid that might mean moving forward to 250 from the green (on a par 4)
Obvs this is for social play only
Great advice, thanks milesgiles. Last time down the range he did his yardages for his clubs and he was hitting his driver just over 170 yards down to 50 yards for his 58 wedge. The Inrange tracking system at the local range is great as it is easy to change clubs and he loves the games. He says it’s better to get used to scoring in the 70s and move back gradually as you get better/longer.. for a young kid that might mean moving forward to 250 from the green (on a par 4)

Wasn't his actual quote something like, play the front tees until you can shoot in the 50s? He says it’s better to get used to scoring in the 70s and move back gradually as you get better/longer.. for a young kid that might mean moving forward to 250 from the green (on a par 4)

Looking for course/hotel suggestions :
I'm trying to book our annual March/April weekend golf trip - 4 of us. We have done Marriott Breadsall Priory and Forest Pines in the last 2 yrs,
Both were good - The hotel at BP was better, but the championship course was closed due to the weather. (basically a bog in the winter it turns out), the other course was ok but only 16 holes (weather again) and fairly easy.
FP on the other hand, hotel was a bit pants (it felt somewhat golf stag do central), but the golf course played well despite horrendous weather in the few weeks prior to playing it. it obviously drains well. The 3 loops of 9 were great.
So where should I look? Requirements are :

- nice hotel with pool/sauna etc
- a decent restaurant / bar with not too many big rough groups.
- Must have a well draining course that will definitely be playable in March/April?
Not sure where you are, the budget, etc. but you can’t go wrong with:

Although I don’t think they have a pool!

Off for our annual sales trip to the US at the weekend, which this year is back in Dallas. Was hoping to get in at the course we played last time (Texas Star) but they're fully booked until 3pm, so booked here.

Doesn't look too bad for 60 bucks!

The pool/sauna is going to narrow your options substantially. Highly recommend Thorpeness. Greetham Vally is outstanding value, much easier and both are great winter courses
Don’t think either has a pool

If you want to assured of decent playing conditions (not a bog), then you need to restrict yourself to either links or heathland courses, both of which will be more expensive for obvious reasons. You could look at a Dormy House deal at somewhere like Burnham on Sea, considering it’s a final qualifier it’s very good value. I'm trying to book our annual March/April weekend golf trip - 4 of us. Borrowed a G440 Max from the Pro shop this morning.
Just point and shoot, didn't miss a fairway but the flight was super high, even with the Chrome Tour S shaft. So easy to hit but always feel that Ping get left behind in the distance stakes.
So much decent stuff out there now.
Main thing that puts me off Ping drivers are those silly turbolators on the crown and they've never been the nicest sounding drivers (being polite, the G425 sounds horrendous) - but they work for a lot of people. Think I prefer your GT2 in all honesty - although I would have gone for the 4. When does it arrive?

GT3, end of the month according to Titleist.
Half tempted to get the 7w too, might shove my 430 hybrid on eBay tonight and see if I can shift that first.

I'm not a big hitter, so having something I can launch into the sky from about 200y will be invaluable.

My suggestion would be sack off the UK, and jump on a flight to Faro, and head to Quinta Do Lago.I'm trying to book our annual March/April weekend golf trip - 4 of us. We have done Marriott Breadsall Priory and Forest Pines in the last 2 yrs,

Book a 2 bed room at the Wyndham, play Quinta North & South (potentially Laranjal instead of North, or in addition) and I suspect it will work out cheaper than a weekend local(ish) and the weather won't be an issue.
Quinta is far removed from the Villamoura type places. Nice restaurants, a couple of decent bars, and the clubhouse itself at South is fantastic.
The Wyndham 2 bedroom room consists of a double room, a twin room and a sofa bed in the lounge area, along with 3 bathrooms. There may be an option to split the double into twins also. The place itself is 100 metres from the centre, opposite the South course, has a fantastic pool and spa, etc.
Friday to Monday, 2 rounds, late March works out around £750 per person including flights, hotel, golf & transfers.

I'm new on this thread...but I'm still buzzing.
I'm the worst golfer I know, but got my second hole in one in 6 months. Annoyingly they were both 150 yard uphillers, so I didn't see the ball go in.

I've been playing this silly game for 35 years and still haven't managed my first outside of a simulator. I've had a few eagles on Par 4s after hiking my second, no hole in ones tho.
