That’s unbelievable! Keithton, you’re a lucky man! I’m usually allowed 18 holes per Holliday these days (also have a toddler)! Those courses look superb & some great scoring. What are the greens like? Assume perfect & fast? Snows on the ground here :/. A friend of mine managed to arrange a free game at the Brabazon yesterday through his work - I was a bit concerned about the forecast but accepted anyway, as after all it's the Brabazon for nowt.
In the car on the way there I thought I may have made an error:

Cruised down the Toll Road in reasonably clear conditions until I got near the barriers, then the fog started setting in.
Got to the course and this was the view

They were still hopeful of getting us out if the fog lifted. Our tee time was at 10 30, and shortly before that we got the message that all 3 courses were closed.
Bugger.
With 2 x Toll Road (no other useful way of getting there from where I am) the price of breakfast and drinks there if was a bloody expensive free game of golf that didn't happen!
Buying a hoody probably didn't help
Anyway stopped off at the range on the way home and was hitting the ball really well, hitting very consistent distances with each club. Need to work on direction a little, but the ball striking was excellent.

That's a shame. The view was not dissimilar when I played it a month ago but the fog lifted very quickly. In the car on the way there I thought I may have made an error:

Winter golf yesterday at Girton - we played 1-4, then skipped across to 12 as we didn't fancy playing into the low morning sun which meant you couldn't see a thing in the opposite direction to this pic.
08:04 tee time & -5 degrees, the fairways were frozen solid as were the bunkers, 18 temps in play, some borrowed yellow pinnacle golds (whatever they are) and some interesting bounces!
Putting and therefore scoring was pointless but it was nice to get out - the new experience for me was having to clean the impressively compacted ice out of the grooves after every shot. It was like the ice welded itself to the clubface on impact!

This is mental to me, way too cold for golf 08:04 tee time & -5 degrees, the fairways were frozen solid as were the bunkers, 18 temps in play, some borrowed yellow pinnacle golds (whatever they are) and some interesting bounces!

Those winter shots look gorgeous to me, I'd love to be able to play in conditions like that! Looks like I'll need to fly south if I want winter golf.
In other golf news, I've booked in to do a couple of hours with Ben Emerson at Sand Martins GC on the 29th. I follow a D4D Pro on Instagram called Mike Browne, and he's been to see him, and has good things to say. Mike has one leg, and the other is missing above the knee, so will have a lot of the same limitations as me. Ben reckons he's pretty comfortable working with someone's physical limitations, I'm excited.

Yep, same (obviously) at Bar Hill on Saturday. Cold wasn't felt that much as there was no wind chill. A cold air temperature isn't too bad, it's the wind that gets you. I think the frozen greens are a bit of a laugh, but the tee boxes are no fun at all. The range session from Friday working on driver went completely out of the window as you couldn't keep your footing
Belated HNY to PH golfers and welcome to the new posters. It's the greatest, most frustrating, best game you'll ever play.
Envious of those currently playing in warmer climes, I just have no motivation to play in this weather with it being more of a lottery. Roll on the spring
Decided to review what I wrote at the start of 2024 and set of aims for 2025.
Finally got 20 rounds in to get an official handicap, end 2024 at 5.4, with a best of 4.7 last year. My handicap suffers in the winter so I'll probably not put in any cards until the course conditions improve.
Liking the new irons that were purchased in late 2023 but the limiting factor is now me and how far I hit it (93mph club head speed with the driver). I have video of my swing and rather than turn the shoulders fully, I bend my left arm to the top of my swing and create a quite funky(!) position at the top of my backswing. I am however consistent at delivering a square club face back at the ball so while I know this current swing works, my only chance of improvement can come from changing this (and it will be a healthier swing for the long term).
At the current time my thinking is I'll work on fixing this area of my swing and see where we are in a couple of months, especially when rounds of golf are limited during the winter months.
On the holiday side, my golfing trip is to Portugal in May, which will be my first visit there.

Above is what I wrote at the start of 2023.
Hit a new PB low handicap of 3.5 during the year and currently sit at 3.9. Not played for 6 weeks and with the current weather it's looking like range only golf for the next couple of weeks.
Have joined a golf course, Mill Green on their flexible membership. From this I'll be looking to make my handicap official, although with no recent golf I'll be happy for it to sit in single figures as my game suffers through the winter.
Purchased a new set of irons. Need a full season but my new handicap PB was from using the new irons. Work commitments got in the way of the gym so not seen any benefits of going down this route.
Have a week of golf in Cyprus in May. Can't wait for some warm weather golf
First aim is too have fun! This game is hard enough as it is, so no suffering trying to play if the weather is poor. This has meant I've played only 6 rounds since the end of September!Hit a new PB low handicap of 3.5 during the year and currently sit at 3.9.
