Went to the range for the first time in over a month, still in shorts and a hoodie at 3 degrees! Was great to be back hitting range rocks again, but I used the ‘Nugget Golf’ swing tracker they have now… some of my swings are so OTT it’s ridiculous, more lessons coming soon thanks to my GF getting me some for Christmas hehe

I also have no idea if that swing tempo is good, it says off tempo in the details, but if I google 2.2:1 swing tempo (which was my average over 200 balls) it sounds like that’s ideal?!

That PXG is £430. Four hundred and thirty pounds for a 2 Wood.

That’s absolutely wild.
That's golf in general, however, at the side of other equipment it's a good buy.

2.2/1 is an extremely quick backswing

It’s not that ott, although I’d need to see video. The club path would pretty much be on your hands at p6, which is on plane.

Because your bs is a long way inside I wonder if that’s throwing your app off.?

Got to try this today...

If you struggle with driver but like your woods, then this new mini driver is worth trying...
Very nice - will admit I'm looking forward to having a look at the GT280 when it lands in a couple of months.

Agree on the prices these days though, was in the shop at the Belfry at the weekend (admittedly not the cheapest place in the world), £349 for a GT3 3 Wood and £579 for a GT4 was a bit of an eye opener....

Also just found out our game at the Belfry has been rearranged for this Saturday. Forecast says 3 degrees, positively warm compared to last week hehe

Thank you very much for the feedback, much appreciated! I’ll try slow the backswing when I’m next there and see what happens…

I’ll get the lessons booked in soon and see what the issue is, my irons go dead straight 98% of the time, it’s just the driver which is inconsistent as fk at the moment…

Good analysis, my swing is similar in plane, in, then ott a bit, but still in-to-square as a strike.

I have a very slow tempo though!

I’m surprised SN looks that good! Have you played westernham recently? I assume it’s similar?

Rosscow, I’m always jealous / impressed with how your home course looks, whatever the weather! Something special about Links courses & well light balanced photos!

Bought a G430 #3 hybrid on eBay on a whim - looks in quite decent condition and only cost me £144 from golfclubs4cash. One of my aims this year is to sort out the gapping at the top of my bag. I know what I'm like and if I don't just jump in and try something, to at least get that starting point, I'll get stuck in a loop of, should I get fitted, do I want to buy new, or used, how do I know what's good if I buy used, do I want to get fitted and spend more on new, etc. Maybe I'll really get on with it, maybe I won't, but it should get me started.

Be interested to hear how you get on with it. I finally bought a hybrid last month (Sim 2) and after using it I wish I bought one sooner! So versatile and I find it so much easier to hit then the 3/utility iron I had.

In other news after getting to a point where I'm playing the best golf I ever have, I recently completely lost the ability to hit anything other than a shank... 3 range sessions in a row, probably 90% of the shots I hit were off the hosel. I've been trying all sorts to prevent it and nothing seemed to work!!

Finally yesterday things got a bit better, with all my efforts being to swing more in to out (I've always had a slightly out to in swing but never resulted in hitting it off the hosel). I think I'd also been putting too much weight onto my toes, as moving it back slightly seemed to help get my hips out the way.

Isn't golf fun rolleyes

Just hook it to get your confidence back. Seen an assistant pro shank it for an hour on the range lol

Last round of my trip today, god I played awfully, not helped by the thunder storms last night.

Today was The Gary Player CC in Sun City, held the Nedbank tour event a few weeks back (and still taking down the stands). Shot an 84, so +12, but god it's tight. Fairways often no more than 15 yards wide, semi at 1.5yds wide and then rough. Thing is it's not normal grass. The whole course is Kikuyu grass - so many times today I just couldn't get the ball out, even from the semi! Below shows the 3 cuts, after ~10yds rough there is knee high grass and bushland (bushes, often with puff adders)

Some more pics from today

Been out here for just over 3 weeks now, fly Sunday, but managed to get 4 rounds in over that time;

3rd ranked St Francis Links (+10)
4th ranked Fancourt Montagu (+13)
5th ranked Pearl Valley (+4)
6th ranked Gary Player CC (+12)

Played them all in that order and think it's fair. Drive pst Leopard Creek (#2) and was at Fancourt but couldn't get on the Links (#1) so they'll have to wait for next time! Thankfully seen an email that my home course (The Addington) has now reopened so I'll be back there next weekend!

Easiest way to cure a shank…put your hat on backwards & put your keys / spare change in the opposite pocket wink

Golf in SA does look stunning - never been on my list of places to visit but might have to change that.

Just back from the Belfry and good news is it went better than last week. Temp gauge in the car was a whipping 8 degrees higher, and when we got there it looked far more playable.

Was in decent nick for the time of year, bit muddy on places and looked like they'd had recent issues with the greens, bit it played well and the greens ran pretty true.

No idea on score as we played a 2v2 Scramble, but that went well as me and me mate won 4 and 3. Generally hit the ball well but was leaving the face a touch open on the way through, so was hitting a lot of 10 yard cuts.

Winter League at Stone tomorrow, let see how we get on.

Played a quick 9 hole at Stockley Park today as a 2 ball, got put on a tee time just in front of a group of about 20 on a competition who were absolutely lovely and made us laugh a lot. But I was stting myself, it was my first shot of the day as we had no time for the range before… my mate hit his driver like a wedge, went so high and about 100 yards.

I tee’d up with my notoriously slicey driver and hit a shot that could not have gone any better for the first hole in front of a big group, about 200 yards, perfectly up the middle to the corner! The feeling I got when the group all said lovely shot and clapped was a feeling I doubt I’ll get again on a golf course rofl

Great you got out, scramble is such a fun format for this type of game, I'll try and do some this year. Sounds like your game is in good shape too.

I have a Titleist fitting at one of their national centres on Thursday, looking to replace my 2022 Callaway.

Really looking forward to it, should be a good opportunity to get the shaft/head dialed in correctly as I'm launching it too high with the current driver.

Coincidentally, work have sent me a £200 voucher to use so I can explore the exotic shafts for free (in my head at least hehe)

Thinking GT2 with a Ventus Red but let's see what the fitting says..
