Way too one dimensional.... not enough anymore.
Pretty much this. I've always felt that when he arrived he simply exposed the lightweights as a shallow pool of talent and toughness. He gained a lot of momentum of the back of the fluke Aldo result and that should always have been rematched (maybe now is the time?) but whilst everyone has developed and refined their skills, McGregor just seems to have hit his ceiling since the high points a few years ago. He's right in his post-fight chatter that inactivity doesn't help but I feel he's now destined to be nothing more than a gatekeeper to getting title fights and is probably best retiring properly and enjoying his money.I've enjoyed his demeanour this week, whether that is a sign of self-believe lacking or what I don't know but his respect and sportsmanship to others is far more enjoyable than the usual rubbish.
The respect between them has been refreshing, I'm a big fan of his but knew before the fight started this was going to end one way. He looked in good shape but Dustin has evolved.
He's expecting a third kid (I think), either he takes a few more fights and has one last title shot at the end (if he can win the few fights) or take the boxing match vs Pacman (Pacman was tweeting before the fight about making 2021 a good year for fighters) and then call it a day. He's set for life now.
I don't think we will see Khabib again, the fire has gone, loosing his dad. Maybe Khabib can fill his dads shoes now and train the younger generation of fighters from Dagestan.

I think that's all we'll see from Conor. His fight prep is too expensive for the money he will earn now. His team are all used to the high life and I don't think those expenses will be covered by his purse and PPVs any more. Unless he wants to dip into his own pocket to cover all that. Bit like having an old Porsche that might only be worth 15k. Servicing it at an OPC will still cost a lot.
I've said before that Conor is good but what he's a genius at is marketing. He's used his skills and precise and effective marketing to make more money than any fighter ever in UFC by an enormous margin. Kudos. Fighting wise, he's not top tier and he knows it.

Fair play. Connor slowed down by calf kicks but looked slow generally. Just wasn't very sharp overall which was really a reflection of his lacklustre demeanour all week.
There was nothing fluke about the Aldo fight. That counter was set up in the proceeding 3 months of insults and hype. He played Aldo's ego to get him to run in, straight onto it. It was won (brilliantly) outside of the ring.

He'd switched from his usual karate-style stance to a more square-on, boxing stance leaving him more static.
Yep. None of the old flicking side kicks to maintain range etc which would have gone someway in negating the calf kicks. Just one twos and the occasional corkscrew upper cut.MrJuice said:

Might have jumped the gun with this one. Apparently CM is getting $20m for this fight. So there's clearly still a lot of money sloshing around.

I'm taking Dustin to win at 3-1 tonight - it seemed like good value to me.
The way I see it, Conor has never had much ground game to offer and basically fought nobody good since 2018 when he got beaten.
Dustin has more to offer and got more heart

Conor is nothing but a boxer. He's never really improved any other aspects of his game.

He’s more than just a boxer, his striking is high level, it was always his ground game where he is lacking. When he’s on the ground he’s always looked to return to feet without trying to transition or improve his own position. There has been little development in the part of his game that has been his weakness throughout his time in the UFC. Conor is nothing but a boxer. He's never really improved any other aspects of his game.
His problem now is that many others in his division have drastically improved in their stand-up in the past few years.
I will say that it didn’t seem like the same conor last night, didn’t really seem to be any fire in him. Whether that’s because he’s lived the high life to long and needs to go a bit Spartan again if he wants to compete or he just underestimated poirer or his out of ring activities have taken their toll I don’t know.
It went the way I expected to be honest. I said to a lad at work that if he takes away his leg, he won’t be able to throw his left hand with so much venom. Happened a lot quicker than I thought though. If he thought Poirier’s leg kicks were brutal, Justin’s would snap him in 2.
I don’t think any of the top 5 or 6 wouldn’t have any trouble with macgregor nowadays.
To be fair to Conor though, I think he was right. Everyone else has been active and improving the whole game. The level to be at the top is higher now than it was 2 years ago. I don’t like the bloke but he is good for the sport.
I wouldn’t be surprised after watching the post fight presser if Poirier hung up his gloves either now or after his next fight.
Chandler looked terrifying, he is going to be a problem. Hooker looked like a deer in headlights though.
