Charles Oliveira stripped of lightweight title after missing weight.
I've read there was an issue with the scales at the hotel giving a false weight. This messed up his weight cut apparently. st way to lose the belt.Edited by g4ry13 on Saturday 7th May 17:17
Going to be a hell of a fight anyway.
I didn't watch all of the card.
Chandler is a tough guy, he was rocked early on. I thought it was poor form to do all the backflips and celebrate with Tony out cold. It's definitely time for Tony to consider hanging up the gloves.
Charles Oliveira looked like he was struggling with Justin's power. Justin is definitely a brawler who can take some shots and keep going - albeit not the smartest fighter strategically. I don't really see anyone challenging Oliveira in the division - his last few fights have really impressed and convinced me that he's on a different level.

Cracking Main Event last night. Glover put in a really good performance, especially considering he's 42.
Glover made two pretty obvious mistakes. Round 4 he's on top of Jiri and goes for submission. Glover could have laid on top and just landed elbows and strikes for the rest of the round maintaining top position and winning the round. Instead he goes for the submission and loses the position.
Round 5: Glover stuns Jiri and then goes for standing guillotine and ends up on his back rather than try land some more punches.
I had Glover well ahead on the decision and although Jiri looked to be beating him on striking ability, there appears to be some vulnerability when it goes to ground. So I think others in the division would fancy their chances.
Although Glover still has it, I think he should consider hanging up the gloves. Tbh after he won the title last fight it would have been a good note to end the career on.

I agree with that summary. Old Man Glover was winning by a fair margin until that mistake in the fifth. He is still an absolute beast when he gets you to the ground, and he's very good at that particular skill.
I've been saying he should retire after his last five or six fights, but he keeps coming back with good performances. .
The whole card was great, apart from the judge who scored 49-46 for Shevchenko.

Anyone else notice Jiri tapping a bunch of times during the fight? It was really weird and if the ref saw it would have had good reason to stop the fight.
How did the ref not see that?Article said:
“Lol,” Goddard responded on Twitter to a fan’s question about the move. “Jiri was actually congratulating [and] encouraging his opponent! He done it a couple of times and I told him it’s a risky game lol! But it’s very clear what he was doing and intending. Lets celebrate the incredible feat from both gentleman.”

Shame for Glover as he had Jiri in serious trouble on the feet in the 5th before the submission attempt. As Jiri got tired in the 4th and 5th Glover was catching him repeatedly and hurting him, should give some encouragement to others in the division. But Jiri's exciting to watch so looking forward to seeing him defend the belt. I've been saying he should retire after his last five or six fights, but he keeps coming back with good performances. .

Was funny watching them both grinning at each other across the octagon, then having a hug before they went at it again. Great fight!
That 49-46 scorecard was ridiculous! I thought Santos won the first 3 rounds, but if it swings the other way in a close fight then no problem. But there was no way Shevchenko won 4 rounds imo, and she got lucky with the clash of heads as that changed the momentum completely.

Yeah a few times I though he tapped, but couldn’t really see that he was in a position that would mean he would want too. Sounds like he was lucky the ref could hear/see more. I think jiri has a bit of the mcgregors about him where he’s fallen in love with his standup and power. Hopefully he will work on his ground game though and improve unlike Connor.
Another great card though, UFC is absolutely levels above boxing in terms of entertainment for me now. And I used to be all for boxing, staying up till the early hours etc. I haven’t seen a boxing card for ages now where the whole card has got me excited.
I've been catching up with UFC 276 from last weekend. Adesanya fight was rather boring, I really hoped Cannonier would take him down and not let it be a kickboxing bout but Cannonier just played Adesanya's game and barely got a glove on him - a few swings got through but nothing much.
Pereira is same height as Adesanya and seems to have a similar striking style. I would fancy his chances in beating Adesanya again and knowing the betting lines there will be some generous odds for what could very well be a close contest.

I also caught up with the Volkanovski fight. He was on a totally different level to Holloway.
Looking through the division the only real interesting fighter I see is Brian Ortega. It would be good to see Volkanovski move up to the next division.

3-0 to Volkanovski over the best challenger in the division (I thought Max won their second fight). It was never a contest, Alex was so slick and in control. Perhaps he will move up, his only other option is to lap the division. We all know he'd have no trouble bulking up given his history in rugby.
As you say, Adesanya fight was boring. Normal these days since Izzy stopped putting it on opponents for some reason. Cannonier had given up long before the end.

Nate Diaz v Khamzat Chimaev confirmed for UFC 279.
They honestly must be trying to kill Diaz, he's at least halfway to having brain damage already! Diaz may have been in some entertaining fights over his career but he hasn't got a great record and is pretty average yet seems to end up in the octagon against some of the top guys.
I don't see Diaz winning that fight in any possible way.

I agree. It's almost criminal to put him in with a guy like Chimaev. I'm hoping for a very quick stoppage because Diaz will never quit taking punishment.
I read that Diaz wanted the fight. It's a really bizarre fight for Chimaev to take on. He just had a really close fight with Burns (ranked #3 at the time I believe) and just about won it by a round in my opinion. Chimaev should have been looking for his next fight to be for a title or VS the #2 ranked fighter. Not against a #20 with a bad record.
