NFL (no haters)

The Wembley game yesterday definitely wasn't the best example of NFL - I couldn't believe the amount of flags being thrown after virtually every play. It was rare to see more than 2 plays back to back without at least 1 flag.

I stayed up and kept an eye on my team the Giants falling 0-4 in another shocking performance. I suspect it wont get better during the season.
Another Giants fan here - I cant see things improving this year I think after that last minute field goal in the previous game we're destined to be setup for a long season of disappointments AlexRS2782 said:

With no Sky or NFL Gamepass forced to watch the highlights or check plays via the app, but we seem to be making odd calls with Macadoo. I suspect he will stay for the season, but we have no running game, and the O Line just leaves Manning under pressure all the time. Challo said:

Giants 0-5 now. I can see it being 0-6 after next weekends game I'm tempted to place a bet on them going 0-16 this season as it might spur them on to start winning
Pretty high injury rate to deal with as OBJ's now sidelined with a fractured ankle, Harris broke his foot, Shepard & Marshall have ankle injuries too.

I was watching the game when OBJ got injured, thought at first it wasn't a bad one but it clearly was, must just have caught the ankle at a bad angle.Pretty high injury rate to deal with as OBJ's now sidelined with a fractured ankle, Harris broke his foot, Shepard & Marshall have ankle injuries too.
I'm not sure about 0-16 though, they actually played pretty well I thought, it certainly wasn't a walkover.

Defence has been holding up, but the offence cant score points at the moment and even when we do get a lead we crumble in the 4th quarter.
I knew if I put £5 on the Giants to go 0-16 they'd start winning I'm honestly surprised they came away with a win tbh - I was expecting it to be another loss, especially given the injuries.
In fairness he probably has a valid point as I find it hard to believe no team was willing to pick him up, regardless of possible wages, given how some teams have been without a decent QB.

Dreadful performance by Hundley, 18/33 157yds, 3 picks, 1 TD.
Can we not sign Colin Kaepernick? he took SF to a Superbowl.
Probably not, as his lawyers served papers on the NFL on Sunday citing "collusion" between them and the team owners to prevent him from playing. Can we not sign Colin Kaepernick? he took SF to a Superbowl.

We can confirm that this morning we filed a grievance under the CBA on behalf of Colin Kaepernick. This was done only after pursuing every possible avenue with all NFL teams and their executives.
If the NFL (as well as all professional sports leagues) is to remain a meritocracy, then principled and peaceful political protest - which the owners themselves made great theatre imitating weeks ago - should not be punished and athletes should not be denied employment.
Such a precedent threatens all patriotic Americans and harkens back to our darkest days as a nation. Protecting all athletes from such collusive conduct is what compelled Mr Kaepernick to file his grievance.
Colin Kaepernick's goal has always been, and remains, to simply be treated fairly by the league he performed at the highest level for and to return to the football playing field.

It will be interesting to see the outcome of this. The NFL teams have no issues employing players who have had issues with drink and drugs, and certainly no issues with players beating women. They do potentially have an issue with a man who makes a non-violent protest against police brutality. Hilts said:

Well looks like we have no chance of signing Kaepernick as Mike McCarthy is going with Hundley. He'll still need to sign another QB as backup though.
Reading this article gives me some hope for the rest of the season after the Vikings disaster, it says the gameplan was obviously designed all around Rodgers and from now with Hundley they'll change the offence to suit.

Exactly, there are quite a few current rostered players with pretty serious off field issues that are evidently deemed acceptable, but raising concerns over racism, police brutality, etc, is deemed to be more of a problem I was watching Sky Sports News earlier, whilst the car was being MOT'd, and there was a small piece there saying how the NFL commissioner(s) and team owners are meeting over the next 2 days to discuss the issue of players protesting. Apparently someone leaked information that suggests they're concerned the protests could spread over to the NBA, that's due to kick off, and as a result want to find a "solution" to bring the "visible protests" to an end.
The working theory so far is that team owners are likely to be told to instruct players that they shouldn't "disrespect" the national anthem & flag of the USA (not really sure they're actually disrespecting it now tbh, but hey ho), but will instead be given leeway on other methods of protesting including small statements on cleats, armbands, etc, which would previously have been banned. Yes, because that really has the same impact

I think the Cowboys were on bye week however it seems that Jerry Jones found himself targeted by protestors that turned up at the NFL teams / commissioners meeting.
A lot of tweets about an hour or so ago from some of the NFL broadcasters saying how Jones was accused of treating his players like "slaves" after he suggested they stop protesting or face penalties, despite supporting them 2 weeks before. A couple of other owners got some heckles asking them to support the players right to protest too.
However, in an attempt to draw Dallas fans away from the subject of the protests, Alfred Morris (Cowboys running back) has done a nice interview saying how he still regularly drives / uses his old Mazda 626, that he bought in 1991 for just $2 and called Bentley, rather than buying expensive supercars, etc, despite his current contract being worth up to $5 million. Certainly a lighter mood given everything else
Edit - Just seen that Sky are doing a tribute to Kevin Cadle, their long time NFL co-host who died recently, before this weekends game. It also appears that the Twickenham game is Sky only as it appears no agreement could be reached for the BBC to stream the game (minus a studio / presenting setup) on the red button, but the BBC are still broadcasting the final UK game at the end of the month.
