Looking to the future out of the team in the 5th test I keep, Watson, Siddle, Kawaja ( sp ), Haddin (c), Smith and probably Beer he did bowl a lot of dry balls before getting flogged late in the day and has potential.
Bollinger, Harris and Katich need to come back, still need to find two quality bats Maddinson may prove to be one of those but would likely replace Katich so still holes to fill.
Only one extra batsman for the first 11, you forgot Hussey.Bollinger, Harris and Katich need to come back, still need to find two quality bats Maddinson may prove to be one of those but would likely replace Katich so still holes to fill.
Hauritz instead of Beer.
With all that though you still don't have an attack that will take twenty wickets with any regularity. Beer, Bollinger, Harris and Siddle is not the foundation of an attack that will move the Aussie side on.
Harris and Siddle are test class, but the feeling persists with Harris that he will be an Aussie Simon Jones.
Johnson is a test bowler, but he needs to learn control. Hauritz should be a standard fixture in the Aussie side, not to take wickets a la Warne, but just to hold an end down.

I thought Harris looked the class bowler for Australia....but he's 31 and injury prone. Mitchell Johnson can be as dangerous as anyone (he was unbelievable in SA two years ago) but he's 29 so he ain't changing his action IMHO....I think the fact he moved from his native Queensland to play at the WACA tells you a lot. Australia definitely need to formulate a game plan around their abilities......as you say a spinner can be a key part of an attack even if not one that threatens wickets. England certainly weren't shy of using Giles bowling over the wicket at RH bats.

New theory: apparently it's all down to the weather, La Nina causes interruptions to the warm dry weather that is the only weather the crims bowlers can perform in and England bowlers are used to.
Take a look at the article in today's Daily Telegraph.
You couldn't make it up.
I pretty much read the print off the DT every day and missed that one, you must have got the one that was for pommie consumption ( much like Fosters ).Take a look at the article in today's Daily Telegraph.
