I've had an itch for one of these for over 2 years now, and whilst doing some Friday afternoon car browsing I got hit with the feeling you get when you find 'the one'.

Deposit has been put down pending a diagnostic report due to a check engine light (the Lotus dealer that has maintained it for its entire life reckons it was thrown by having the battery disconnected, not too sure about that, but won't buy it unless it gets a totally clean bill of health).

Some niggles:

  • Accelerator is too low so I can't heal and toe - does anyone know if this is adjustable or if there is a raising block I can add?
  • Bit of clutch judder on downshifts (high speed 4th gear to 3rd) - it feels a bit like the ACT clutch on my Exige - is this a TADTS/me needing to learn how to drive the particular car or should i have this checked out?
Apart from that I can't wait for it to arrive back home!

Me neither. A Lotus dealer should have an OBDII reader and know exactly why the CEL is on. Ask them what number code is the problem.

I guess it can be set as mine is just perfectly aligned to heel and toe.
There can be clutch judder at times as this is an undamped twin plate unit (no springs in the plates). A little blip of throttle on downshifts smooths things out considerably.

Ok, good to know, I'm an obsessively smooth heel and toe shifter and found it quite awkward just chucking it into 3rd (due to the pedal position). This will be the first 'fix' of a couple of small fixes.

Re: the fault code, Petit le Mans (the dealership brokering the sale) have only just been appointed an official Lotus dealer and expect to have their diagnostic tools in two weeks time, I've agreed with them to give me the exact read out and I'll decide on the sale based on that.

Hi Jan,

With regards to the clutch juddering, it can only be one of two things, the clutch assembly to flywheel or gearbox mounts. I am currently having my engine out and had only had my clutch replaced less than 5K ago but now and again I get a judder. My Lotus guy told me that my gearbox mounts had gone when taking engine out and reckons that this is the cause to my problem. Gearbox mounts and fitting can't be that much so I suggest to get the seller to throw this in.

Regards,

Thanks Dave;

Are there any stiffer/stronger mounts on the market that I can upgrade to?
