Looking for some advice regarding an Esprit I have found sitting looking unloved. The car is a red 1988 four cylinder turbo that was last tested in 2011. At this time it had 89k on the clock. It is at present sorned and uninsured whilst parked on a public road (which could be a bargaining point). I have no idea why it is laid up. I am asking this as I would need to knock on a few doors to find the owner and if the value does not appeal to me it would save me time and possibly embarrassment.

Head over to the Lotus Forum and ask there ,but generally there is no such thing as a cheap Esprit, parts can be very expensive and something small can soon escalate.But on the other hand you never know The Lotus Forums are a very good starting point you may find someone knows the car and its history.
