Test drove an S4s which is mid 90's, much quicker car than mine but I just love the JPS.
It appeals to me that it is an old car and doesn't drive like a modern car.
It wasn’t at all my intention to suggest that your car is ‘less’ in any way. Did the S4 feel significantly more modern?

I loved my `96 V8 it was a great drive, had a few niggles with it but soon fixed those.

Look at that!

Drive the V8-SE or GT for that matter. The sheer acceleration and the speed at which you can take long corners, it will always take a long time to wipe the smile off your face! Never drove a GT3 and almost came close to getting one pre V8, it just wasn't meant to be.

I have to say, even at speed when we used to take them on the autobahns to stretch their legs, they still felt planted at 165mph+. I still keep an eye out for one, even though I live in the states now means there are still a few with no miles on and there seems to be decent pickings for the late ones too.

Looks wise though, a well kept clean and sparking G car always makes me smile. The V8 though, well they're just something else.......

I test drove a V8 Esprit a while ago.

+ All the Lotus magic is there: amazingly feel-some steering and superb ride and handling.

+ Performance is good, although it’s very capable and you can’t use much of the performance on the road without risking your license.

+ Very comfortable, provided you’re not too tall (it’s quite a short cabin).

- The clutch takes some getting used to.

- The gearbox is horrendous.

Yes, they’re not modern feeling inside, but it is a 20+ year old car, so it depends what you want. Personally I’m far happier with the feel of a car like an Esprit than a modern sports car for the same money.

I've had a 4 pot and a 98 V8 and I'm V8 all the way... I can't think of anything I didn't like about it and if I could afford one I'd have another for sure.... I believe the 0-60 is actually 4.7 which is acceptable... it not about headline figures, the Elise for instance I also love and have had several as for fun and bang for the buck they can't be beat in my opinion but a modern diesel will show an Elise it's heels on the motorway but that's not why you buy one...

Best I can say is go and try one out and make your mind up from there, I used my V8 daily and adored it!

Good luck sir with what ever you decide to buy wink
