Not at all.........but watched with my friends for a few laps, are you suggesting I am wrong !
Definitely not going to get into a typical PH slinging thread over this, but I think the actions of the driver and officials need to be put into context. The timing shows that car 82 did this over the last three laps:Lap 15 - completed in 1m 29 secs. On the pace.
Lap 16 - 1m 49 secs. Slow and in trouble.
Lap 17 (chequered flag). Not completed / parked at St Mary's.
So I'll let you draw your conclusions on how many times he went down the pit straight with a wheel hanging off, but I don't think it's the case that he lapped continuously and was ignored by the officials. However, I expect that when he looks back at it, he would have done it differently.

That's pretty hard to do given the distance he drove with something so obviously wrong. He was a potential serious menace to other drivers, the public & especially the marshalls. (as was the Cobra that didn't come in with swinging exhaust!)
Totally Agree. Seems racing Toffs don't think the Black Flag applies to them. Look, "now then little man, I'm racing my car". No slinging matches sir, with respect I saw what I saw......fact.
He was in trouble and IMHO opinion should have pit'ed, would have saved a few grand in repairs as well.
Throughing himself in the grass........maybe very upset agreed but looked like a bit like a spoilt child.
Main point is this could have turned out very different "had" things gone wrong in the wrong place and think he "should" have been black flagged.

I was near St.Mary's when the wheel came off.
I don't remember how many times he passed me but the commentators had noticed the situation quite some time before the wheel left the car.
The marshalls must have noticed it too and he SHOULD have been black flagged.
Yes I know he would then have had three laps 'grace', but without being black flagged he
may have thought that it was not as serious as it potentially was, and assumed he could limp
to the end of the race.
Had he seen a black flag combined with whatever he was feeling regarding his handling,
he may have made a different decision and stopped the car before it stopped him.

Here you go, modern timing helps out.. The race sector times below.
So at the end of the 15th lap the Ginetta was either held up in traffic (I recall he was once or twice at the chicane) or was starting to feel the problems, he lost a second in the last sector. Real problems on lap 16 and then the car failed completely before the completion of lap 17 where he didn't go past St Mary's. So he passed through Madgewick with problems twice, but only ever came through the chicance (where I was standing) with problems the once. Make sense?
In defence of the officials it is 100% certain that he did not pass the pits three times with problems (only once with very obvious problems) and they would not have had the opportunity to respond with the black flag.. Hope that clears that one up!
