Hi, this is my first trip to Goodwood and really can't wait to make the trip down from Scotland. We have been kindly invited down and have been given hospitality tickets for the War Rooms.

It's been suggested we dress up, which we are up for but my other half was concerned that that not all others in this area will be doing the same?

What the % of people who will dress up and any tips for what a guy in his mid 30s should wear?
There's no need to fret too much. Some people go over the top, and make sure their attire is 'historically correct' right down to the buttons on their shirts. As long as you wear something that you would have expected to see a man wearing on the street, in period, you'll be fine. Think trousers, shirt (with cravat / tie) and a hat, add some nice shoes, and job's a goodun. Try not to over think it, the event is primarily about the racing, after all.

Tell your other half not to stress about costume, the vast majority of people will dress up, some will just do a basic costume others will spend £100's on costume. have a look at the Goodwood Revival web site for idea's

Here's a photo from last year, how many people can you spot in the crowd not in costume?

Charity shops are your friend as its a bit late for ebay now. Blokes are easy, old jacket, flat cap etc or just an old pair of overalls and a leather belt. My wife just hired a 50's rock and roll style dress for our first time from a fancy dress suppliers.

If you've been given hospitality then frankly you have to make some effort with what you wear but as has been said it's really not difficult. For men a blazer/sports jacket/tweed jacket with brogues, flat cap and tie is easy. As for the ladies surely they all love getting dressed up a little even if it's just a dress and some fur?

p.s. The only people who don't wear something in keeping will be sat perched on a camping chair, around the perimeter fence glued behind a mega-huge camera lens laugh

Arrive by 7.15
Look around paddock
Walk the circuit, back of the circuit is less crowded.
Make sure you watch the TT race.
Stay late
(Take a decent waterproof)

Dressing up is good, saying that this is my 12th year and I've never bothered.

Just to throw a bit of pedantry in. Period 30s 40s 50s or 60s dress for ladies is not just a matter of digging out 'Ascot wear' and shoving a fascinator on top of the barnet. A-line dresses with fur stoles however are very much the ticket. Have yet to see a ladie in 30s tweed golfing gear and cloche hat but that would be spiffing. My own o/h will be debuting her silk 40s dress on this occasion. The first time we went (06 I think) her original 50s make up melted on her face because it was so hot! Clown look deffo not in period!
