Finally finished my photos. For those who dedicate time to purely shooting I can't recommend the top of the hill enough. On Friday this year it was absurdly quiet, positions right up against the rope all day long, and often so quiet I was the only person in the area.

You also get two bites at the cherry, as the light when they come back down through the trees is stunning

Goodwood FoS 2016 by Chris Harrison, on Flickr

I've spent the last 4 years in the same spot on the Friday, unfortunately they've closed off the opposite side now which was better for panning up the hill, but it's still, in my opinion, by far the most relaxing area of the whole climb (and generally speaking, only the real enthusiasts climb that far) and the nearest thing to the feeling of what it was like to be there 8+ years ago.
Lovely photos there, can I ask what sort of camera Lens you are using ?. I need to replace mine soon as it's having issues after many years hard work and the detail on your photos is spot on.

Nikon D750 with a Sigma 35mm 1.4 Art and Nikon 85mm 1.4 for the paddock stuff, and Nikon 200-500mm f5.6 for the hillclimb action. Pretty expensive gear but an entry level Nikon and 70-300 VR has the potential for very similar results.

I've shot with all sorts of gear over the years and it's all broadly similar if you shoot in the right light. Any long lens is great for the top of the hill where they're coming out of the trees, just need to get as low as possible, pick a high shutter speed and fire away.

Thank you, I'll have a look at the prices. My old Nikon D80 has served me well over the years, but it's time to look for a replacement.

I didn't take many pictures due to the sodding weather! (I was there on Saturday)

My best would have to be this.

It shows the Weather very well , Sunny but Wet.

Rain and Sun alternated every 15 minutes!

Nice pics! That is a great place to watch and shoot from, was up there last year. I only did Sunday this year, and wasn't on my own, so had to make the most of shooting from some of the more crowded areas!

Finally got round to finishing sorting out my FoS photos. Managed to get 2000-odd down to only the 650 or so paperbag Some of them might even be worth looking at. Funny, but I found I felt more well-disposed to the Festival running through it in celluloid (ask yer dad) than I did at the time. Maybe it's cos the sting of the wallet-rape has had time to subside!

Anyhoo, here are some of my favourites and maybe some stuff you might have missed...

(^^ 07:15 Thursday was where my personal Festival started; teeming rain and the place to myself. Almost eerie seeing the Hill so quiet and deserted)
And…

…start!

(I realise that one's a terrible photo ^ but it's the only one I have that shows of the preposterous curves of the 540K Streamliner. And at least there aren't too many fools holding up tablets or mobiles in the way)

(^^Tazio Nuvolari was famously given a golden tortoise badge by Gabriele d'Annunzio, a notable author of the time... awarding "the world's fastest man the world's slowest animal". I can only assume the li'l chelonian in the cabin of the Mazda 767B is some kind of tribute. I'd love to know for sure, anyone know?)

(It is, apparently better to light a candle than curse the darkness. If you own an 1898 Benz both have a similar usefulness)

(I dunno which car won the Style et Luxe ...how can you compare an 1898 dogcart to a late-20th Century Lamborghini anyway?... but for me the Lancia Astura cabriolet was the most beautiful thing in the place)

(Four days of polishing will do this ^ to a man!)

(love the various Avions-Voisins; bonkers aircraft-inspired lunacy)

(lots of Barry's bikes. So, just like every year, then)

(only ze Germans would have such a beautifully-made oil can hidden away in the engine bay ... on it's own perfectly-fitting plinth, naturally)

It might just be me getting older, but I find myself more and more drawn to the pre and post-WWI behemoths. It’s the combination of brutal excess and obsessive attention to detail, I think

(Not all the trade stands were selling overpriced "apparel" to Tarquin and Tamara, some actually had something to do with cars. I have so much want for one of these billet compressor wheels)

Likewise, you could buy a diorama of what your Mancave might look like were it 1:18th scale. And included a 300SL Gullwing.

If you hiked up to the Supercar Parking area you could see some stuff you'd have been happy with seeing at a show in their own right. And a lot of Range Rovers...

Even a random lone Alvis!

pucker up...

Pah! Spirit of Ecstasy? No-one did joie de vivre like Renee Lalique!

This is the carnage that resulted from the Swiss-watch precise Delage having a rod interface with the crankcase here last year. The Brooklands restorers had it all laid out on display…chained to the bench. Well, it can’t be easy sourcing parts for a 1920s Delage straight eight, you don’t even want knackered ones getting tealeaved

Diablos in the Cartier Style et Luxe

…and in the parking field. Instant kudos

Look up “fish out of water” and you might find a photo of a gazillion-horsepower funny car on a hillclimb. Jolly good show though and by far the loudest noise of the day. Or maybe ever

My first car was a MkI Glof. If it had looked like this I might even have not hated it

V8 Guzzi, one of the rarest bikes ever and one of the most astonishing pieces of automotive packaging too!

The i8 of the future… and there you were thinking the current i8 was the i8 of the future. I sooooo want a spangly velour steering wheel

When you warm up one of these…

…this is the effect it has on everyone within about a mile radius

Why not wedge an aeroplane engine into an old ladder and nail a bicycle wheel to each corner? After all, once ol’ Smudger’s full of gin he’ll still get in it and give it Larry on the banking. Issota-Fraschini Fiat manages to transcend its components and also be outright plain beautiful

Looks like a bit of seepage’s got into his indacateur de vitesse

Japanese homage to Buick’s 1959 Dynastar Aire Grille or simply parallel evolution?

100 years of BMW, y’know. There were certainly one or two of the damned things about
