After both being members for 2 years, both my girlfriend and I are not renewing. Marginal benefits, and very disappointed about the latest Revival. Always loved the Goodwood events, but this year the Revival felt very corporate and more stripped down than before - members benefits at the festival itself were also very limited, and we had to negotiate with them to park our period '63 1/2 Galaxie (which they didn't race this year) in the historic car park, on the grounds that 'we needed an additional ticket for that' even though all passengers were members for years. Also do not live close enough to benefit from the golf club, Kennels and what have you not, unfortunately.
It's been a requirement to have an over the road car pass for a few years now.

Goodwood is a business & an arrogant superior greedy one at that. That said the current Earl had to find a way to start making the estate pay as his father who had minimum entrepreneurial skills was from a generation of landed gentry who considered making money rather vulgar & was just happy watching the horse racing.
The early days of the Revival & Festival of Speed were the best with a genuine sense of appealing to the petrol head. Now as with F1 it's merely a business & I can assure you that behind the scenes the enthusiast is of little consequence unless he is contributing a few million pounds worth of cars to ensure the crowds come & pay through the nose to look at them.
I have witnessed at various functions how billionaire sponsors, corporate CEO's, the glamorous the famous & the rich are sucked up to, but that's business.
Lovely grounds, big house & interesting airfield maybe but it's an unpleasant place to work too.

I guess that depends on the individual. I've heard a few times about how goodwood is an unpleasant place to work. So I asked my colleague who's an ex employee and they would happily return to the state if the right job appeared, a friend also worked there and he had no issues. I guess it's like any business it's all about if the face fits.

I think we are all well aware it's a business, like any big house these days they have a huge upkeep (another example of similar is longleat) even holding FOS or the revival must cost millions so they need to get a return in their investment plus cover the costs of the estate (which includes a farm)

WJNB is back moaning about Goodwood! no point in it being a not for profit because with no profit there will be nothing! so a money making business it has to be!
