Saywell Track Day - Saturday 13th May

In the past I've parked in the paddock area. Fairly easy to get a spot if you get there early enough. By about 11am it seems to have filled up. I tend to aim for around 9am, get a tea and watch the first cars go out on track as spectators start to arrive. then head home a few hours later as more people turn up.
I've been going the last 10 years on and off. Very well run with some lovely cars turned out on show and on the track Peter Saywell sure does have a nice collection, the 918 is the stand-out for me at present.

Did anyone go today and see or know of what happened to the guys that crashed? Were they OK? We think we saw them getting out of the car but couldn't be sure because we were stood chatting by the flying school. We just heard the screech of tyres and the thud of the car hitting the tyre wall.

I was the passenger! It was the Ferrari F355, with the owners son driving. Both fine thank you, but Goodwood did take us to Hospital in Chichester to get checked over to be on the safe side. jimmy156 said:

That's great news that you're both ok. It sounded like a hell of a thud. I bet his name in mud in his household tonight though.

It was a pretty big hit, no idea how fast we were going when we went off. I bet his name in mud in his household tonight though.
His dad was incredibly understanding, and very cool about the whole thing. To be fair his son seemed a very talented driver and was handling the car very well up until that point. He was pretty committed throughout the drive and i think he just got unlucky / made a mistake. It certainly wasn't a case of "messing around in dads Ferrari."

I was stood up on the bank and watched you come off. He nearly caught it but then the car went the other way , did a spin and went side on into the tyre wall. I would say about 60 plus into the tyres. His dad was incredibly understanding, and very cool about the whole thing. Was relieved to see see you both climb out of the window, the radiator must of split as there was steam pouring from the back and no movement for a while !

Yeah the scariest bit was not being able to open either door after the crash, despite our best efforts, with what was obviously steam, but in the heat of the moment could have been smoke, coming into the cabin! It was a relief when the window opened!
He did nearly catch it, was an unlucky break i reckon, 60 into the tires sounds about right. Looking at them they took a lot of the force out of the impact, which i guess is why they are there.

Peters son has a rapid mini and the last one had a pair of track Ferrari's running on summer slicks which provided plenty of entertainment!!
I think you'll find unless one of his daughters has had a sex change he doesn't have a son Peters son has a rapid mini and the last one had a pair of track Ferrari's running on summer slicks which provided plenty of entertainment!!
If you're referring to the mini with an AOG plate he's nothing to do with Peter.

I'm glad you think it's rapid, we do okay as the underdogs at the Saywell days if I say so myself! As for the relation to Mr Saywell, (AOG Plate) that was a gift from my old man, who has worked for him for a fair while.
Taking a step back from these trackdays now, Not many people care to pay for a ride in a MINI so letting the more desirable cars take to the track.
