Eh? No apologies necessary. I'm one of the many GRRC members who don't receive emails so your post was the first information I saw.
Sorry.. my mistake - for some reason I thought you were actually from Goodwood rather than 'just' a member like myself.
Not quite sure why I thought that now.

think its a great positive move - good job done when considering the options on how to expand club to those interested in Motorsports and Goodwood,

I mean waiting on list for 5 years is too long and Goodwood have obviously built up something that folks want to be part of.
However if lots take up the £39 a year (and lets face it that's nothing for most individuals) the waiting list can still be 5 years.

Of course you'll have some hacked off people when they get £158 knocked off their membership after a 3 year wait and still get asked for £100 plus a joining fee of £200+

It looks as though it is a way to make £39 x waiting list per year additional income.
At the moment they make no income (yearly payment) from the waiting list whilst a large percentage on the waiting list most likely attend events all be it maybe not every year.

Now you will only be on the waiting list if you pay the £39 per year, pretty good marketing ploy.

Had opportunity to join this year but due to circumstances have delayed for a year. Personally I will take the full membership over the

There are limited benefits on the fellowship membership with badges not giving access, car parking not giving access (for souvenir only - which is buzzare)

Still think it is worth more being a member but don't think they should have souvenir badges / labels.

I can’t help but think of the badges and car stickers in a similar vein to the frequent-flyer baggage tags.

The Fellowship ones seem much like BA’s Silver and Bronze tags; just because they’re issued is NO excuse to actually use them (it’s basically advertising one’s position in the cheap seats).

The full Member’s ones are more like Gold tags, in that, should one use them, one should use them wisely use them wisely (car sticker okay, lapel less so / more location dependant)

The Fellowship feels a little cynical but who can blame them for finding new ways of earning money. That said, I think GW needs to be careful as many of the ticket prices and gate numbers are starting to feel a little bit toppy (at least to me).

I can see why it makes sense to get £40 out of waiting list people and offer them something in return but I'm baffled as to why this is exciting news to me as a long standing GRRC member, completely baffled.

When I saw the email I first thought, oh goody they have recognised that some of us are long term members and are promoting us to "Fellows" but then I realised that it's nothing like that! In fact Associate would be a far better term than Fellow which almost always means something more important than Member... smile

Yes, Most odd... in all other organisations a 'Fellow' would be a higher 'rank' than 'Member'. Just adds to the confusion. I did wonder if this good news for Members was say, after 10 years as a Member you get made a Fellow (with some other tangible benefit too). As you say, I think the term Goodwood were really looking for was 'Associate Member'.

Still looks like nothing in this for Members at all.

I agree. I had to do 10 years PQE with my institute to apply to change from being an Associate to a Fellow. One would hope they revisit the naming terms they have used but I suspect they're already running straight through to launch

I am massively underwhelmed. All I need now is another daffodil bulb in a fancy box arriving in the post.
To be fair, I did actually like that. Even though the postman wouldn't leave it when I was out so I had to drive to the delivery office to pick it up. That isn't Goodwood's fault though!

A nice touch - but not really a member benefit.
Lets be honest, nobody took the whole bulb thing seriously... How many pots were actually at the MM......... a Dozen? (The Vintage Shell one was nice) I wore mine in my lapel on the day and saw one other person wearing one..... And he was a judge on the pot stand...
Waste of money....
I'll join the list of disappointed people regarding this announcement....

I didn't take it too seriously... mine got planted and left on the garage window cill. This is how it looked before I left for 75MM. I didn't think I should bring it with me.

Lord March's video message helpfully begins with some definitions...

I'm guessing that "fellowship" in this context is meant to conform with meaning 2, i.e. people with a shared interest (in Goodwood motor sport). I don't think it supposed to imply senior membership; after all, "fellowship" isn't membership of the GRRC at all.

But I agree, the third interpretation makes it a bad choice of name.

I don't understand why it was billed as exciting news and bigged up for existing members. The management of the club has lost its way over the last few years since James left.

This is just a money making racket for those daft enough to actually pay it . Having been on the waiting list for 3 years I am now expected to pay for the privilege of waiting!.

Well Goodwood you can stick it.Take me off the list. I won't be paying up.

One word sums this up...................GREED.

Agree with most of the views above.

FOS I don't bother with any more. The overcrowding at the Revival makes it less enjoyable each year.

To me, the best event is the Members Meeting but it seems like this will suffer in the same way that the Revival has.

Oh dear. In a mood now you can't have your freebees?

See ya then.

As I recall, you don't get any 'freebees' whilst on the waiting list.
Could you clarify what these were?

not sure why they marketed this to existing GRRC members... should've been marketed as a GRRC Membership "Lite" option for those that can't afford / don't need all the benefits of the full one...

Hmmm. I'm on the waiting list but can understand the cynicism.

I live far enough from Goodwood that in reality I'll only visit for the Revival and (possibly) the MM. I'm looking for membership for Revival paddock / grandstand access, and discounted tickets, neither of which you get until you become a full member so I'd have to pay £40 pa to wait in the meantime, albeit I should get it back upon joining fully. I realise my not being able to take more advantage of it isn't anyone else's fault smile

How much discount on MM and Revival tickets do members get at the moment?

See GRRC Membership Benefits

15% discount on up to two entry and two Grandstand tickets each day for Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival
Two complimentary tickets to the Thursday at Festival of Speed

It wouldn't make sense to give a member's discount to a Members' Meeting.

I wouldn't recommend joining the GRRC as a way of saving on tickets.

What freebies? just greedy Goodwood. Their loss I will take my cars and revenue elsewhere. Don't like being taken for a fool. Like most things in life today they start out as good then money grabbing greed gets in and ruins it.

How many track days do GRCC members get offered in a typical year? The promo blurb is vague . To understand one of the principle benefits of joining I'm surprised they don't say more.
Any guidance appreciated.
