Never raced or rallied - http://cagp.com/events/heathrow-airport-terminal-1...

If you are in need of 15km of stainless hand and foot rail systems, 11 luggage reclaim carousels or over 4,000 airport seats, you are in luck.

So I assume this means they've closed T1 then.... why?
If they're just renovating it then surely keeping all these assets would be cheaper than re-buying them post-renovation?

T1 closed 3/4 years ago, when the new T2 opened.

T1 is gradually being demolished to make way for the 2nd phase of T2 to be constructed at some point in the future.

Nope won't be renovated as far as I know.

Is there actually a market for this stuff, other than as scrap? Who is going to be in the market for 5 airbridges?

It is an insane number for just one tiny building. Shows how watched everyone is.

Why couldn't they be reused in the new building I wonder, would have saved a fortune!

I'm assuming that it's because they will all be old analogue crap and the existing part of T2 will be newer IP type cameras.

They can be reused with additional recording equipment but analogue CCTV really is rubbish and it's about time that analogue technology was consigned to the history books where it belongs.

I would guess that original 2000 camera system cost them over £1.5 million when first installed.

A huge number of them will have been in the baggage system monitoring that, rather than all being people watched

But at an airport, there are not many places you can go where you aren't watched, that's for sure. However I have been disappointed in the past at places where there have not been cameras, which would greatly have assisted with accident investigations and in one case, criminal investigation.

Not in this case as the T1 baggage system is still live, as its connected into the new T2 baggage system wink
