Picked this up a couple of months back as a little side project. 1987 Jetta TX.
Had no mot, flat paint and didn't run too well. But I could see it has a really solid shell and had potential to make a nice little run around.
After replacing front flexi brake hoses, pipes, pads and stripping the carb to sort out the fast idle speed, it sailed through its mot.

Ah another mk2 owner (currently nose deep in a mk2 golf resto) looks like you dropped on. Would you mind me asking how much you paid for it? I'd love to vr6 a mk2 jetta one day.

Very tidy from the outside, and by the MOT result, from the inside and underneath too.
Good work.

Jetta TX was the same mechanically as the Golf Driver wasn't it?

I know I wanted one pretty badly when I was 18. (25 years ago .... !)

I think they are quite under-rated cars as they are every bit as good as contemporary Golfs, but always way cheaper and the boot is HUGE!

Back in the late 90s I test drove a Jetta GTi 16V but for some reason the engine just didn't seem to have the same grunt as 16V Golfs I had driven so I gave it a miss. Shame really as one of those was rare then, must be really thin on the ground now!

In full use now while I do some long overdue work on my mk2 gti.
Now on gti shockers and 16v springs. Modified a golf mk2 stainless exhaust system to fit.

That may well have shared Dane Chester's showroom with my monza Jetta 16V E504WMA.
Though yours must be a very early facelift model whilst mine was a late previous version.

Looks fantastic.

Not far away. Car originaly purchased in Birkenhead vw main dealer. Car has always had owners in Crosby where I live.
I intend to get the bodywork sorted and keep it stock looking. It still has the original push button radio cassette player and rear speakers.
Thanks for your positive comments guys.

Thank you. I've been lucky in finding it. I removed all of the wheel arch trims and bumpers expecting to find rust, to be expected from a thirty year old car. But found clean untouched bodywork. The sills are arrow straight.
I'm looking forward to improving it futher.

Great find...They were underrated at the time I think. They made a 16V model (IIRC) which was a bit of a Q car. Enormous boot as well !

Personal opinion....but I would have kept the steelies on there !

By the pictures you seem to rather like VWs of that era...!

I will in time put the steelies back on. Just saving for some better tyres. The Dieyong Ditchfinders that are currently fitted are a bit scary.
Yes the boot is massive. Will be good for a beer run.

A VR6 Mk2 Jetta would be great fun, having owned a Corrado VR6. Fantastic engine. Enjoying the Jetta as it is at the monent, as long as I'm not in a hurry to get anywhere smile

Lovely acquisition.

I've been a life long MK2 Golf fan......but always had a soft spot for the fast Jettias like the 8v and 16v GTi.

Some magazine journalists even used to say back in the day that it handled better than the Golf due to the boot....perhaps better balanced or something like that.

I still remember the TV ads for them smile

I wonder if anyone has seen a 2dr Jetta around ?
