I cant find the information through the search engine.
Mine is an early S1 but it seems likely that some components carried on from the 280 wedge. The very early S's have a crank arm rather than cable wiper arrangement. Mine is one of those. Is that the same as the wedge and if so does anybody know where it was sourced from? I have found and adapted a motor from a Peugeot but the passenger side wiper spindle assembly has been bodged at some time, I have managed to 're-bodge' it and it has lasted a further 5 years but it isnt going to last much longer and I need to source a replacement.
Any information?

Hi mate

As I understand it they are 16w Lucas wiper motors...Not cheap and might be able to be refurbished.

This site may help with that...smile

Hmmmm, if the Wedge had a Lucas motor I wonder where TVR got the early one from as my (assumed original) was an AC DElco unit!

Not sure a Wedge wiper motor would be anything like an S. Don't they have 2 wiper arms and the Wedge has just one? If so the sweep will be totally different. My Tasmin is a fairly early 1983 and has a Lucas motor. The motors are really hard to find and although they are 'similar' to other Lucas motors (TR7 etc) because of the sweep the park switch is in a totally different position. Cheers Steve

The wiper motor in the wedge looks very 'Triumph' to me... but there was a big range of those 'rack in tube' type Lucas wipers in all BL and related vehicles.

As I understand, the motor end was pretty much standard, but there was a wide range of wiper 'box' ends, to give different sweeps and so on.
I know the Vixen used Herald ones, amongst others, so it wouldn't be a big surprise to find the wedge uses a later BL/Rover/Triumph one.

Apparently they have the sweep angle stamped on the cog inside. I've seen a few old Triumph ones with angle stamped on the outside, so the info
is probably there with a bit of detective work.

Did any of those cars have a single wiper ? Or perhaps a really large windscreen area ? Rover SD1 ?

Hmmm..'S' Ford did seem to prefer the lever arm types, but I'd guess that again the motors are probably standard, and it's the arm length etc...

Where does suspension come from on 'S' ? was it Sierra or Granny ? Can't remember. But that's where I would start for wipers.
or perhaps even Cortina (as 'S' production overlaps wedges, it's design phase would make that possible....)

Thanks guys, looks like I can rule out the Wedges you all appear to have rack and wheelbox wipers, as do most S's (although not of the same make). As mine had an AC Delco motor it probably wont have been Ford or BL sourced, more likely Vauxhall or whoever TVR could get to part with stuff at the time.
We had a bit of fun trying to find out how many sources were used. My car has a Chevette (Vauxhall) rack with Cortina trackrods fitted. Servo from Saab, steering column from Escort, brakes from Sierra, pedal end and rubbers are Jaguar, tail lights are Escort, front indicators are BL Sherpa, door handles are Capri, part of clutch hydraulics is Landrover.....and so it goes on!

Actually I think Ford did still fit Delco bits at time of Cortina IV and Sierra, but they were stamped with a Ford logo. - so there may still be a Ford source.

Yes, for a while Saab was quite Anglophile and used quite a few Lucas and Girling parts (and even BL engines).

That clutch slave cyl was also shared by Triumphs and other BL models.

So actually TVR didn't stray into weird bits all that much. (Ash trays anyone ?)
