Hi, I cant seem to find many reviews online aside from Beermountain, do people have an experiences on Thomas Cook camping? In particular for someone travelling solo who will be using public transport so I dont have a car to lock stuff in, security is really important to me. Not after a wild party atmosphere, just solid and safe

Thanks

All you should ever have in the tent is sleeping bag - maybe air bed or foam if floor not comfy and a pillow.

I’d not be keeping beer or food in a tent - it would be in the car boot in an ice box plugged into the fag lighter.

If however your going to go down here without a car then take a ruck sack with you with anything important. Though aside from wallet house keys passport and generally entry ticket mobile phone what else is there of any value to nick? I doubt you’d have Louis vitton bags packed with high end brand new designer gear.

Or on a public campsite make friends with your neighbours and ask them nicely to lock stuff away for you. In the unlikely event you can get hold of a Tertre Rouge ticket we'll do it.

Ok OP real world answer...

Thomas Cook Sport has excellent security and safety deposit boxes. The food is good so no need for a stove etc. Toilets excellent showers too. Not too far from tram to pop into town and get there.

Very good site location.

I stayed there three years in a row. As the group got smaller we cope on Houx camping non private now.

Feel free to drop me a PM if you want any other info.

Not linked to Thomas Cook sport in any way.

''Having worked as security advisory for many top companies, I can say this site has the best security at Le Mans.''
I assume therefore you have done an audit of all the secure private camping at Le Mans? Could you share the results so we can see the data ? That would be so helpful , thank you in advance!

No mention of the TC site being covered in trees who pollen in a hot year has a...distinctive, clawing odor.

Thanks, when they say lockers, I presume they mean little things small enough to keep keys and passport in?

With regards food, whats the setup? Is it just like having burger vans within the campsite? They refer to a free breakfast, is that some pastries and coffee?

Not used TC but most of the private camping options will have a large marquee, satellite TV, bar and be offering 3 hot meals per-day. Given how much TC charge I'd expect waiter service.

Outside of that you can walk in to the 'village' where there's everything from a permanent and temporary seated restaurant down to snack stands. Or you can walk to the tram. Just past here are a couple of restaurants, or you can get on the tram and head in to town.

Thanks I went with a pre-erected tent as I'm going to be in France for 2 weeks in total and cant be bothered lumping it around with me.

I didnt go for one of the meal packages, but I assume you can just buy it. I've found at Spa for the 24 I ended up not really having proper meals as I was snacking the whole day.

You can buy as you go, but that is, as I recall, more expensive and depends on there being enough. Frankly the food is better than anything available trackside, I’d not waste the effort trying to find something else personally.

Agree, the food is worth the extra on TC good quality food, you can buy as you go but when we aimed to do that they had run out.

That said they are very good at estimating quantities, the only bad thing I ever hear about TC is the prices. But you get what you pay for.

The food at the circuit ranges from ok to truly awful. Spa has much better food in most cases than Le Mans, Breakfast as most Private Campsite on the meal deal will be a full english each morning.

Thats really helpful, I'll ponder it and I'm sure I can email them and get it added on.

Its worrying if you say Spa is better, as that isnt a high bar, frites stand on the roundabout aside.

One other add on I didnt bother with is the trip to Mulsanne / Arnage.

Does anyone have any experience of that? From what I read, its solid traffic to those corners, so it sounds like I would just sit in traffic.

Don’t worry about a trip to Mulsanne/Arnage. If you get the mini train down to the porsche curves there are busses just outside the circuit. They take you to arnage and Mulsanne. Both times I have used them late night Saturday it’s been fine. Just watch out for last times. Mulsanne is not something you can walk arnage is just about doable.

If you can get yourself out of bed before sunrise then driving to Mulsanne/Arnage is easy to do and the roads will be empty. Don’t be tempted to drive like a silly bugger though as there are still police everywhere.

Was it worth it? How long did you get at the corners?

As I don't drive, I'm tempted to walk down to Arnage, it looks about an hour's walk from the Porsche Curves

I would go with the circuit buses as these are free and you can spend as long or as little time at the corner. Also if you miss the bus from the campsite then no loss of wonga,

Circuit beers last years went up soo much I hardly drank at the circuit at all. Plenty back on site though.

IFRC, You can get the tram from behind the grandstands on the outside of the circuit, about a 5 min walk from TC. You may have to change tram at Technoparc. (these trams are road trains like at theme parks and pleasure beaches). When at the porsche curves the buses are just under the circuit and on the right.

Think the last tram on race night was about 2am.

Great thanks, sounds like I have options. I'm looking forward to walking a few yards on the flat unlike Spa.

Looking at the schedule, there is an hour between 2nd and 3rd qualy on Thursday, if the weather is ok I might just walk it then, especially if as you say, its busy on race day

It is probably more then an hours walk and the 10pm bit is usually when the pole time is set. Cooler but still some light left also means people have almost no chance of beating you as its then dark.

That said its the best time of day see the cars there from evening into the night. Certainly at Arnage people could spend all day there. There is also a bar that does food there.

If you're going to be walking to or from Arnage after dark take a torch or wear high viz, it's pitch black out that way and there's no pavement on the road
